Dobročovice brings together the village square, Dobročovický rybník and the Chapel of St. Isidore. Its medieval history includes a fortress and Bohuslav’s stay there; a stone bridge also stands over the Výmola stream. Along the Výmola River, the Králičina a Povýmolí natural monument protects wetland habitats. If you are looking for hotels in Dobročovice, this combination of local history and landscape gives you a straightforward sense of what makes the village distinctive.

Village Square, Pond and Chapel

Dobročovický rybník is the central feature of Dobročovice’s village square. The Chapel of St. Isidore stands on the south side of the square, beside the main road. Together, the water and the religious building shape the village centre: the pond forms the heart of the square, while the chapel adds an architectural focal point at its southern edge.

There is riverside vegetation on the east bank of the pond and where the Dobročovický potok flows into it. Old willows at Dobročovický rybník are among the area’s most valuable trees. Both individual stretches of bank and the trees by the water are important to the landscape. Both are subject to change: riverside vegetation and the condition of individual trees may change over time.

Fortress History and Buildings

Dobročovice Fortress is associated with several events in the Middle Ages. In 1403, it belonged to the Prague burgher Martin Rotlev z Koloděj. Before 1415, Bohuslav, son of Prokop of Prague, acquired the fortress. After 1426, Bohuslav lived there until around 1465. The acquisition and residence are separate stages: the fortress belonged to Martin Rotlev in 1403, while the later account concerns Bohuslav’s stay there.

The present-day Chapel of St. Isidore dates from 1771 and was built at the expense of Duchess Marie Terezie Savojská. On the road leading northwest, a two-arched stone bridge crosses the Výmola stream. The two buildings are characterised in different ways: the chapel by its date of construction and ducal patronage, and the bridge by its stone construction, arches and position over the stream.

The Výmola and Protected Wetlands

The Králičina a Povýmolí natural monument protects wet-meadow ecosystems, flooded reed beds and small wetlands along the Výmola River. This landscape contrasts with the village pond: the pond shapes the village square, while the protected habitats lie along a river. Thus, a central square with a pond and river habitats with different types of wetland exist alongside one another as distinct landscape features.

Two connections to water help put the destination in context: Dobročovický rybník as the centre of the village square, and the Výmola with its protected habitats. These are complemented by local buildings and the historically dated stages of the fortress’s history.
