Býkev lies right on the border of the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. The village is shaped by several notable features: a war memorial, a multipurpose sports field and views of Říp. Together with its location by the D8 motorway, these provide a clear point of reference for anyone considering Býkev as a destination for a hotel stay.

Landscape and location

In the part of the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area bordering Býkev, visitors can explore the surrounding countryside along hiking trails. The hiking experience is therefore linked to the neighboring protected area. Býkev also offers lovely views of the landmark mountain Říp, which lies about 18 km away. For reference, Prague is about 30 km from Býkev, and the village can be reached via the D8 motorway. Říp is therefore closer to Býkev than Prague is.

Another geographical point of reference is the registered significant landscape feature VKP 107 Pískovna Býkev. It is located within the municipality’s planning area. This means there are two distinct points of reference: the direct border of the protected landscape area and a registered landscape feature within the municipal planning area.

The Český lev monument

The monument in Býkev depicts a victorious lion standing over a defeated Habsburg eagle. The names of local residents who fell at the fronts during the First World War are inscribed on the pedestal. Both the imagery and the names connect the monument’s subject with the remembrance of specific people from the village.

The history of the monument is also marked by a significant turning point: during the Second World War, the people of Býkev hid the Český lev underground. After the war, the monument was raised back onto its pedestal. Thus, both the sculpted group and the monument’s preservation and return form part of the village’s history of remembrance.

Activities in the village and protected area

The multipurpose sports field in Býkev is intended for tennis, mini-football, basketball, volleyball, nohejbal, and field hockey. It is used for active recreation by the public; the range of sports listed shows how varied its intended use is. If you would like to include some activity in your stay, you can choose between two different options: hiking trails for exploring the landscape in the neighboring protected area and the sports offered at the local multipurpose field.

Culture and events

The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Jenišovice was built in 1890 and originally belonged to the chateau. It is open to the public only occasionally. If you would like to include the chapel in your visit, check in advance whether it will be open.

Býkev’s traditional Christmas market was held on the first weekend of Advent in 2025 on the village green. The program included lighting the Christmas tree and a children’s performance. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the announced dates for your chosen travel year.
