If you are considering Bukovno as a place to stay, you can explore the town through three different interests: architectural history, local remembrance and outdoor activities. The Church of St. John of Nepomuk defines the skyline; a protected farmstead and a memorial in the central park add further historical highlights. The Volnočasový areál offers a different focus along a woodland walk. These themes can help you decide in advance which aspects of the town are most important to you during your stay.

Church and Townscape

The Church of St. John of Nepomuk is a late Baroque building dating from 1769–1770. The term “late Baroque” identifies its architectural style, while the dates specify when it was built. At the same time, the church strongly defines Bukovno’s skyline and is a distinctive part of the townscape. This gives you both a specific historical date and the building’s impact on the townscape to consider.

Farmstead and Local History

Farmstead No. 24 is protected as a cultural monument. It is a large, prestigious property dating from the second half of the 19th century, with a romantically designed façade. Compared with the late Baroque church, it represents a different period and building type: a prestigious property rather than a religious building. This contrast is useful if you are interested in the development of local architecture. Bukovno was first documented in 1387 in connection with Pešík of Bukovno. The chronology stretches from the documentary record of 1387 through the construction of the church in 1769–1770 to the 19th-century farmstead, making several periods in the town’s history easy to compare.

Wayside Shrine and Remembrance

The wayside shrines stand on the main road to Michalovice, near the centre of Bukovno. They are pillar-shaped sandstone shrines with an iron cross bearing the crucified Christ. “Pillar-shaped” describes the shrines’ upright form; sandstone identifies the material, and the cross the religious depiction. In contrast to the late Baroque church, the focus here is on the distinctive form of the shrines and their cross motif.

A memorial in the central park commemorates 25 residents who lost their lives in the war. Unlike the buildings, the focus here is on remembering local residents; the number 25 makes this commemorative connection specific.

Outdoor Leisure

The Volnočasový areál includes a zip line, a combined fitness station, balance stilts and a rope course. The area is accessible via the municipal infrastructure and is located along a woodland walk that can be used for recreation and spending time together. The facilities focus on physical activity, while the walk offers relaxation and an opportunity to spend time together. The combination of specific activity equipment and a walk associated with relaxation and community offers two different ways to enjoy leisure time in Bukovno.
