Ledce: History, Theatre and Cycling
Accommodation in Ledce
Ledce brings together several different reasons to visit: local history, theatre, cycling and protected nature. Its highlights include historic memorial sites and active amateur theatre, as well as the approximately six-kilometre connection to Dobrovice. The following highlights will help you choose what to explore in Ledce based on your interests and plan your stay around suitable dates.
Local History and Remembrance
The first written mention of Ledce dates from 1249, when the village was described as a vladyčí estate. The Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was built in 1873. These two sites offer different ways of engaging with history: an early written reference on the one hand and a tangible 19th-century building on the other.
A war memorial in the centre of Ledce commemorates the victims of the First and Second World Wars; it bears the names of 34 fallen residents. These events are commemorated each year with a ceremony as part of the Národní pouť. If this commemoration is important to the timing of your trip, check the event’s current dates.
Theatre in Ledce
The open-air theatre in Ledce was built by residents in 1955 and is still in use today. The active amateur theatre company stages performances every year for the surrounding area. Shows take place either in the open-air theatre or in a hall with a stage, full theatre facilities and a curtain. Both open-air and indoor performances are therefore part of theatre life in Ledce. If you would like to plan your trip around a performance, check the dates before booking.
Cycling Route, Former Railway Line and Landscape
The Dobrovice–Ledce cycling route was completed in April 2025. It is about six kilometres long, connects Ledce with Dobrovice and runs through the cadastral area of Ledce. The route follows a former railway trackbed, making its previous use part of the cycling route’s character today. For a trip focused on cycling, the route provides a clear geographical link between the two municipalities. This makes it a different highlight from the local history and theatre.
Nature conservation is also part of the municipality’s landscape. The Ledce–hájovna protected area was first designated on 8 July 2012 and protects a summer colony of greater mouse-eared bats (Myotis myotis) in the roof spaces of the forester’s lodge. The Jabkenicko Nature Park is also part of the municipality’s wider landscape. The two designations have different focuses: the protected area has a specific species-conservation purpose, while the nature park encompasses a broader landscape.
A historical view of Ledce also takes in the village square. There were four ponds there, named Nádržka, Mlíčník, Sádka and Návesní. Their names add details about the village’s former layout to the sites of buildings and remembrance.
