Buková u Příbramě combines a local history dating back to 1336 with religious buildings, a Christmas tradition, and marked trails. For planning your trip, you can choose between several areas of focus: explore architectural history and local traditions, or distinguish hiking and cycling routes by their specifically named destinations. Čechova Stodola offers another cultural point of interest; at the same time, the municipality can be viewed as a gateway to the Brdy forests.

History and Notable Buildings

Buková u Příbramě was first mentioned in 1336 as the seat of the Lords of Buková. The château’s current appearance dates to 1751, when an older manor house was remodeled. The building has three wings, two floors, and a mansard roof. The château is not open to the public. If you are planning a visit, check its current access status in advance.

In the circular village center stands the chapel dedicated to Saint Sigismund, built in 1888. Its altar dates from the second half of the 18th century; the year the chapel was built and the altar’s date thus mark two different periods in history. In the upper part of the village, Marian devotions are held in the small U sv. Jana Chapel in May; specific dates may vary. There is also a Baroque wayside shrine at the crossroads between Buková, Pičín, and Rosovice.

Cultural Attractions and Traditions

Čechova Stodola is an educational attraction open year-round, with four themed exhibitions throughout the year. The “Staré pověsti české” exhibition is on view from May to October. Large pictures and figures are part of its presentation, and stories about the individual legends accompany the visit. If you are particularly interested in this exhibition, take its seasonal schedule into account when planning.

“Jesličky” is an annual Christmas tradition estimated to be about 100 years old; check locally to see whether it is taking place this year. The event involves a shepherd, an angel, and a devil who go from house to house. At around 10 p.m., the event ends at the chapel with Christmas carols and a gathering of local residents. Specific dates and details may vary; check local information if you are planning to attend.

Hiking Trails, Cycling Route, and Landscape

The blue-marked Komárov–Jince–Buková u Příbramě–Rosovice hiking trail passes the château. A green local trail runs from Buková toward the partisan monument. The trails are distinguished by their named points of reference: the blue route passes the château, while the green one leads to the monument. For cycling, the “Do Pičína” route passes through Malá Buková to Buková u Příbramě. You can visit Čechova Stodola there along the route. This gives you two marked hiking destinations and a cycling route with a cultural stop as distinct planning options.

Local waterways and forests also shape the landscape. The Sychrovský potok stream crosses the municipality from west to east and flows into the Vackov Pond. The smaller Dražský Pond lies next to Vackov Pond. Forests cover nearly 55 percent of the cadastral area of Buková u Příbramě, a total of 427 hectares. Together with the area’s role as a gateway to the Brdy forests, this landscape adds another dimension to the destination alongside its buildings and routes.
