Radíč brings together the history of the castle of the same name and a historic chapel, with marked routes for hiking and cycling. There is one clear restriction to bear in mind when planning a visit to the castle: Radíč Castle is closed year-round; visits are possible only during specially announced events. Check the event notices before travelling. Since 2010, the castle has been opened to the public for social events and weddings.

Castle history and preserved interiors

The former Gothic knight’s castle was partially damaged by fire. In the second half of the 17th century, Karel Leopold Henegk converted Radíč Castle into a single-storey early Baroque château. This clearly distinguishes the older castle phase from its later château form. The first floor of the east wing contains a Baroque hall. Much of the 17th-century stucco decoration and paintings have been preserved inside to this day.

Chapel and statues

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built east of the castle in 1683. It is dedicated to the cult of the Black Madonna, who is also identified with Our Lady of Einsiedeln. Two statues dating from 1713, from the workshop of Jan Brokoff, stand in front of the chapel: they depict St Vitus and St John of Nepomuk. The castle’s remodelling and the sculptures belong to different periods: the statues followed the remodelling in the second half of the 17th century, in 1713.

Historical traces at the castle

Bernard Bolzano’s stay is also linked to Radíč Castle. He stayed there from 1820 to 1830, when the castle belonged to JUDr. František Pistl, and hid from persecution by the Austrian authorities.

The castle’s farmyard includes a barn, two granaries, the former brewery, a coach house, stables and an enclosing wall that closes off the courtyard to the east. The buildings date from the Baroque period of the 17th century and from the second half of the 19th century. The historical traces thus extend beyond the castle itself to the farm buildings and their different construction periods.

North of Radíč lies the ruin of the Kozí Hřbet castle site, surrounded by the Mastník stream.

Landscape, hiking trails and cycling route

Radíč lies in the hilly landscape of the Sedlčansko region, characterised by ponds, streams, meadows and forests. A blue-marked and a yellow-marked hiking trail pass through the area. Cycling route 8132 passes through Radíč on its stretch between Vojkov and Křepenice. On foot, follow the colour markings; by bike, follow route 8132 and its course between the two places. Before setting out on a cycling trip, check the local route page for possible changes to the route.

Visiting the castle and going on a cycling trip involve different planning considerations: for the castle, announced events are key, while the cycling route may change.
