Šestajovice: Culture, Gardens and Trails
Accommodation in Šestajovice
Šestajovice offers a range of things to explore during your stay: local history, hands-on visits at RODAS, and paths through green spaces. Three distinctions are particularly useful for planning: certain visits to the RODAS site follow a schedule, some routes have specific lengths, and ice skating or sledding depends on the season.
Culture and Local History
RODAS Šestajovice is home to the first Czech museum of wax-making and nativity scenes. Visitors can take guided tours, make items themselves in the workshops, visit the museum and visit the mini-farm. The chocolate, candle and soap workshops, as well as the mini-farm, are open to the public according to the stated schedule. Plan these visits around the schedule.
The historic centre of Šestajovice is located on Náměstí 9. května and in the surrounding area. It includes an oval green space, a chapel, a memorial to those who fell in the world wars and seating. The first buildings that became the foundation of the municipality of Šestajovice were built in these locations in the early 13th century. The square thus connects specific places in today’s centre with the municipality’s early beginnings.
Garden, Cycle Path and Field Avenues
The Botanical Garden in Šestajovice is freely accessible. Visitors can use benches and a covered seating area, which is part of the adjacent cycle path. The cycle path comprises a loop exactly 800 m long and a 190 m section along the rampart. The loop is therefore more than four times as long as the section by the rampart—two specific distances to help you plan your time on the cycle path.
The field avenues of Šestajovice follow historic corridors of field paths and are now used for walking and sports. The Polní alej Běchovická between Šestajovice and Klánovice continues to serve as a separate link for pedestrians and cyclists. So, alongside the field avenues, there is also a specifically named route connecting these two places.
Klánovický Forest and Outdoor Activities
Klánovický Forest also extends into the Šestajovice area. Several marked hiking trails and two cycling loops run through the forest. The “Naučná stezka Klánovickým lesem” nature trail is 12.5 km long, has 17 stops and starts at Praha-Klánovice railway station. Its length, number of stops and starting point give this regional forest area a specific route to follow.
Some leisure activities are specifically tied to winter. The Vodní nádrž Beranka reservoir is used for ice skating in winter. At the upper part of the Val u ČOV rampart, there is a platform for outdoor sports or relaxing on a blanket; in winter, the rampart is also used for sledding. Seasonal conditions are a key factor for ice skating and sledding.
Fun Discoveries
The two named games also differ in format and target audience. “Šestajovická šifrovačka” is designed primarily for adults and teenagers. “Cesta časem Šestajovicemi” is a geolocation game for schoolchildren, teenagers and adults. The target audiences overlap among teenagers and adults; the geolocation game also caters to schoolchildren. If you include a game in your plans, you can take both its format and intended audience into account.
