Křížkový Újezdec
Accommodation in Křížkový Újezdec
Křížkový Újezdec can be explored through three distinct themes during a stay: the international Greenway Praha–Vídeň cycling route, the viewpoint in the Okrouhlík forest and local history. If you are looking for a hotel in Křížkový Újezdec, these highlights can help you decide whether your trip should focus more on cycling, the landscape or historical connections. The themes offer different ways to get your bearings: the cycling route passes through the village, the viewpoint is associated with a nearby peak, and the history can be explored through an early written mention, the settlement layout and a monument.
Cycling route and orientation
The international Greenway Praha–Vídeň cycling route passes through Křížkový Újezdec. This gives cyclists a specific connection to the village. The only main road connection leads northeast towards Radějovice and Olešky, and continues east through neighbouring Petříkov to Velké Popovice. The road thus points towards named places, while the Greenway passes through the village as an international cycling route. These are different reference points for planning your trip.
The transport connections also help you get your bearings: neither a railway line nor a siding runs through or near Křížkový Újezdec, and there is no airfield there. The road connection and the cycling route therefore offer different ways to place the village in its geographical context.
Landscape, from viewpoints to springs
The 483 m peak in the Okrouhlík forest is the highest point in the area. From there, the expansive view reaches the Sázava Valley and extends towards the Benešovsko and Neveklovsko regions. The peak provides a precise reference point for the landscape: both its elevation and the view are clearly specified, as are the directions in which you can look.
Another landscape feature is the Kamenický (Čakovický) stream, which rises in Křížkový Újezdec. If you are choosing what to explore, the view from the peak and the stream’s source offer two different connections with nature: one is about looking out over the surrounding area, the other about the origin of a watercourse in the village.
Local history and a monument
Křížkový Újezdec was first mentioned in a written record on 26 November 1349. This date marks the first recorded mention, not necessarily the time when the village was founded. Křížkový Újezdec and Čenětice were founded as agricultural villages of subjects, with small farmsteads and buildings arranged around village squares on a through road. This description brings the historical settlement pattern to life: farmsteads and other buildings were grouped around the village squares. A precisely dated written reference and an image of the village layout of the time thus speak to different aspects of local history.
Another historical landmark is the monument near the hamlet of Na Křížkách. It has stood on a hill since 1931 and is dedicated to the Hussite people. Its location, year of erection and dedication give the monument its own historical significance: while the settlement description concerns the layout of villages, this is a commemorative landmark with a clearly stated dedication.
Events throughout the year
The local volunteer fire brigade organises social events and fire brigade competitions for children and adults every year. These community events and competitions complement the themes of cycling routes, landscape and history. Check specific dates separately if you would like to include an event in your stay.
