If you are looking for a hotel in Husinec, nature, nature trails and the history of research can each add a different dimension to your trip. The landscape ranges from the Vltava meander to rocky slopes, while the nature trails cover a variety of topics. The exhibition at the “Jaderné muzeum ÚJV Řež” and the Chapel of St. Wenceslas also offer different cultural highlights.

Natural surroundings and landscape features

The Větrušické rokle National Nature Reserve lies in the surroundings of Husinec. Its protected habitats include rocky and dry grassland ecosystems, heathland and thermophilous oak forests. Behind the ÚJV complex are the Větrušické rokle, with rocky slopes rising 90 to 100 metres above the level of the Vltava. A diverse mosaic of rocky steppes characterises this area. Several distinct landscape features therefore lie side by side: protected habitats, rocky steppes and high slopes.

The Řež meander, formed by the Vltava, is also part of the landscape of Husinec. It represents a different kind of natural environment from the steep cliffs. On the slope above Husinec, there is also a very well-preserved population of the Czech gold-star lily. Rock alyssum and mountain alyssum grow on the bare rocks; flowering times vary with the season. U Pasáčka Park offers views of the opposite bank and the flowing Vltava. The river landscape, rock vegetation and scenic views can thus be considered different nature themes for your trip.

Nature trails with different themes

The “Školní naučná stezka Údolím Vltavy” runs near Husinec-Řež through a short section of the Vltava Valley and follows the riverbank along a path bordered by cliffs. If you plan to walk this trail, check its condition and signage locally, as the route conditions may have changed.

The “Naučná stezka prof. Čestmíra Šimáně” focuses on a different subject: it provides information about the research institute’s history, its founder and the municipality of Husinec. The nature trail also opens part of the previously fenced-off natural area to the public and is part of the trail network around the research institute. The two routes differ considerably in content: one follows the Vltava through a short stretch of the valley, while the other covers the institute’s history and the municipality.

Exhibition and remembrance

The exhibition at the “Jaderné muzeum ÚJV Řež” includes historical equipment and tools for materials research, facilities from the development of radiopharmaceuticals, and an extensive collection of dosimeters. It also features curiosities from recent history, such as radioactive tableware, radioactive toothpaste and home radon baths. Research equipment and dosimeters are displayed alongside unusual examples from everyday life that are also connected with radioactivity.

The “Kaple sv. Václava” is an important place in the municipality. It commemorates the end of the war and peace. This place of remembrance offers a different focus from the research themes of the exhibition and the nature trail. Nature, the history of science and remembrance can therefore be considered distinct themes when planning your trip.

Practical information

The “Husinec–Řež” ferry landing is at the end of V Luhu Street. The ferry staff assist with transporting bicycles, pushchairs and people with reduced mobility. As this visitor information concerns seasonal access, it is advisable to check the current service conditions before planning your trip.
