Accommodation in Strica
Strica lies on the slopes of Mount Zvijezda, at an altitude of more than 1,000 metres above sea level. The area has been associated with rural tourism since 1983. The mountain setting, hiking trails and local produce offer different starting points for planning your trip. This combination helps you tailor your stay to nature, physical activity or local products.
Mountain setting and protected area
Strica belongs to Zone C1 of the Zvijezda protected area. The Strički potok watercourse, one of the area's defining natural features, is located in this zone. The mountain slope and the watercourse are two distinct landscape features: the mountain describes the area's location, while the stream is a specific natural feature within Zone C1. Together, they give you a sense of the area's elevation and protected status.
Hiking trails with different highlights
The local “Put zdrave hrane” hiking trail passes through Strica. Along the trail, visitors can sample and buy food products. Several local producers in Strica offer honey, jams, liqueurs, homemade juices, trout, eggs, buckwheat noodles and various types of cheese. The opportunity to sample and shop is therefore directly linked to a hiking trail. If you are interested in regional products, you can combine hiking with food shopping along this route.
The Vareš Transversal “Zvjezdane staze” offers a different route perspective: it is 158 km long, has 21 checkpoints and passes through the villages of Strica and Zaruđe. The green route of the Via Dinarica also passes through both villages. The trails can be compared based on different details: the “Put zdrave hrane” focuses on its route through Strica and the opportunity to sample and buy food; the Transversal, on its length and checkpoints; and the Via Dinarica, on its route through Strica and Zaruđe. This lets you choose based on the route feature that matters to your stay.
In February 2026, a marked hiking trail was described that leads from the Sirena restaurant through dense pine forest towards Strica and follows the well-known “Put zdrave hrane”.
The trails through Strica and Zaruđe are marked, and there are furnished rest areas with gazebos along the way. These features add information about trail markings and rest stops to the route details. They differ from the figures given for the Vareš Transversal, for which length and checkpoints are the specific key details.
Winter activities and regional offerings
Winter tourism is another shared feature: Strica and Zaruđe are mentioned together with a ski lift and a recreational area. This adds a seasonal aspect for both villages to the hiking and local product offerings.
Trout has two specific connections to the area: it is among the products offered by local producers in Strica, and it is served particularly fresh at the “Sirena” restaurant. Gajina kuća accommodation is located in the village of Strica, near the city of Vareš.
