If you’re looking for a hotel in Pinet, its winemaking history, hilly landscape, and historic sites may help you choose it as your destination. The Eco-Connect project also includes an agrotourism pilot route and a planned route through Pinet. The different route statuses are important when planning your trip: the pilot route and the planned agrotourism route are not the same.

Winegrowing and landscape

Pinet lies in a historic wine region associated with the cultivation of the indigenous grape varieties Shesh i Bardhë and Shesh i Zi. These variety names give the region’s winegrowing heritage a specific local context. The Shesh–Pinet–Calabërzezë–Eminas hills lie at elevations of 300 to 500 meters above sea level and offer views of the Bay of Durrës and Ishmi. Winegrowing history and the hilly landscape are two distinct points of interest: the grape varieties represent historic cultivation, while the elevation and views describe the landscape.

Traces of Varosh Castle

The remains of Varosh Castle, dating from the 4th to 6th centuries, are located near Pinet. The castle was rebuilt later, in the 13th and 14th centuries. The two date ranges refer to different historical periods and give the castle a longer history than a single construction date would suggest. If historic sites are important to your trip, Varosh is a specific point of interest near Pinet, alongside the region’s landscape and winegrowing.

Eco-Connect and hiking routes

Pinet is a stop on the Eco-Connect agrotourism pilot route. The route described runs from Pinet via Sauqet and Kodra e Djerrës to the Liqenet e Sabielit and on to Çalabërzezë. The pilot route is listed as approximately 15 kilometers long and moderate in difficulty. Its sequence of places, approximate length, and difficulty rating help you get a sense of the route.

This is separate from the planned agrotourism route through Pinet, which is intended to connect olive groves. The project promotes local products and biodiversity in the area of the planned route. Farms are mentioned along the Eco-Connect route, and maps are part of the itinerary. A listing on Wikiloc is planned. If you’re planning a specific trip, check the current status of the planned route: the approximate length and moderate difficulty rating apply to the pilot route.

The “Vineyards way” hiking route is also rated moderate. The route, recorded in June 2019, includes a waypoint at an olive oil factory. Both routes are therefore rated moderate; the Eco-Connect pilot route also has an approximate length and a sequence of places, while the “Vineyards way” includes the waypoint at the olive oil factory. This lets you compare them based on the information available without treating them as the same route.

Getting there and regional connections

A 2019 route map published by the Municipality of Tirana lists Pinet on Line 22 from Ndroq. If you’re planning to use this connection, check the current timetable before traveling. The Eco-Connect itinerary also mentions Ndroq, alongside Pinet. Olive trees grow in the hills around Ndroq; some are said to be up to 3,000 years old. Ndroq has a tradition of olive cultivation and olive oil production. This connection adds another agricultural aspect to the planned linking of olive groves along the Eco-Connect route.
