Mountain Landscapes and Trails

Access routes to Koritnik for hiking and mountaineering lead from Zapod, Bele, Bardhoc and Morin. Mali i Gjallicës has other specific landmarks: the mountain reaches 2,489 metres and is a destination for mountaineering and mountain tourism. Traditional trails start in Shtiqën, Nangë, Lojme and Kukës; their difficulty levels vary. Trail conditions can change, so it is advisable to check them before setting out.

The trail through Kanioni i Shkallës së Keqe connects traditional villages of Luma, passes the Kroi i Kuq mountain spring, and is suitable for hiking and photography. Around the Gashi River, nature exploration, hiking and biodiversity studies are considered suitable activities. In Valbonë National Park, activities range from hiking and nature exploration to mountaineering, fishing and cave visits, including the Shpella e Dragobisë. Water, Caves and Natural Monuments

Liqeni i Fierzës was formed in 1978 on the Drin River as part of the hydroelectric system. It connects Kukës, Has, Tropojë and Pukë; calm waters sit against a mountainous backdrop. Mount Pashtriku is a tourist destination in Kukës County and part of Has municipality. Together with the high pastures and mountain destinations, the lake reveals another side of the landscape.

Këneta e Kashtës is a protected Category III natural monument and a relict lake covering about 24 hectares. The area is considered suitable for observing migratory birds and for sport fishing; local conditions may vary seasonally. Rragam Waterfall lies near the village of Rragam, above Valbona. Topojan Waterfall is 250 metres from the main road; on the way there, you cross a bridge over the river. Trail conditions can change.

Caves also differ in character and in what a visit requires. Jezinë Cave is a speleological formation with stalactites, stalagmites and an underground water source. Exploring it requires experience and the company of specialized guides.

Culture, Museums and Regional Cuisine

K’cimi i Tropojës is a festive dance performed throughout the year, especially during traditional ceremonies. It is accompanied by the tupan, çifteli and fyell. Regional handicraft traditions are also reflected in traditional clothing, songs, dances and musical instruments in the ethnographic areas of Malzi, Luma and Gora.

Muzeu Etnografik i Kukësit is centrally located and can be reached on foot or by vehicle. Its pavilions on biodiversity, archaeology and ethnography cover the cultural heritage of Luma, Malzi and Gora; exhibitions may change. The Tropoja Historical Museum presents the history, culture and everyday life of the region through traditional clothing, tools, household items and handicrafts.

Cuisine is also part of the regional experience: Kukës has a variety of traditional pies. Flija is made with wheat or corn dough, butter and eggs. Locally produced raki is made from fruits and berries. Music and museums, as well as traditional dishes, offer ways to discover the region’s culture and everyday life.
