Svenstrup: Beach, Coast and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Svenstrup
Svenstrup can be considered from two perspectives when planning a trip: Svenstrup Beach is known for its coastal scenery and water activities, while hikes associated with SvenstrupgĂĄrd and Svenstrup Bjerg offer a different view of forests, hills and valleys. There are also prehistoric sites. Which of these themes shapes your stay depends on whether you mainly want to head to the water or are interested in trails and cultural landscapes.
Beach and Water Activities
Svenstrup Beach is a wide sandy beach with shallow water on the Great Belt, south of Korsør. It lies below a coastal bluff, and the seabed is both sandy and rocky. From the beach, you can look across the Great Belt towards Funen and Langeland.
Slagelse Municipality has installed a bathing jetty at Svenstrup Beach; the beach has also been awarded the Blue Flag. Svenstrup Beach is accessible via Svenstrup Strandvej. A path leads from the car park to the beach.
The water off Svenstrup Beach is suitable for an after-work dive with friends or family. Check the conditions on site before diving. The fine sandy seabed offers opportunities to catch flatfish in autumn.
Hikes and Landscapes
The hiking routes differ in their destinations: one hike leads from Frølunde to Svenstrupgård along paths through the preserved forest of the former royal estate. Another leads from Frølunde via Svenstrup Bjerg, along the fields beside Svenstrup Strandvej and past Svenstrup Beach; the route returns to Frølunde through Violvejsparken.
On a hike near SvenstrupgĂĄrd, views stretch across hills and valleys to the Great Belt. Deer and a diverse birdlife can be found among the grassy fields of SvenstrupgĂĄrd. Spejderbjerget, also known as Svenstrup Bjerg, is climbed on a hike beneath blooming cherry trees.
In the area around Svenstrup, Rødhøjlund Skov is a nature campsite between Svenstrup and Korsør. A path in Rødhøjlund Skov runs from the junction with Drosselvej, over a small bridge, to Rødhøjvej.
Prehistory and the Coastline
The protected round barrow near Svenstrup is classified as a prehistoric round burial mound. The long barrow near Svenstrup is a well-preserved long burial mound in open countryside.
East of Korsør, behind Svenstrup, a prominent long dolmen and a round dolmen can be seen in a field between the railway line and the motorway. Neither site is accessible.
Svenstrup Beach can serve as a stop on a circular tour along the coast of West Zealand. Coastal section S4.07 extends from Korsør Skov to Svenstrup, includes Sprogø, is about 38 km long and lies in Slagelse Municipality. This means that when planning a trip, Svenstrup offers both the individual beach and a wider coastal area to consider.
