Årslev: Cirkusland, Nature and History
Accommodation in Årslev
Årslev offers several starting points for planning a trip. The Cirkusland Arena is located directly west of the village; paths along the Gudum Å and historical connections offer other focal points. When looking for a hotel in Årslev, it helps to first decide what brings you here: do you want the seasonal Cirkusland program to be the main focus, or would you also like to combine your stay with an outdoor walk or historical topics? The following differences can help you match your travel dates with your interests.
Cirkusland and the seasonal program
The visitor program includes child-friendly circus shows, rides and mini golf. The program is seasonal, and dates may change; bear this in mind if you are planning a visit for a specific date. Horror Drive Thru is listed in the program from October 8, 2026. Visitors ride through it in their own car or in an “EXTREME HORROR” rental car. Check the dates and availability of this time-dependent attraction before your visit.
A booked Movia Flextur can take visitors directly to the Cirkusland entrance. Check the current transport conditions if you plan to use this option to get there.
Paths and landscape
One path crosses the Gudum Å and continues towards Årslev; additional connections are planned. In nearby Nordskoven, car-free paths for pedestrians and cyclists lead to and from Slagelse. The directions mark a specific difference: one path points towards Årslev, while the paths in Nordskoven lead to and from Slagelse. Around the Gudum Å, there are 34 hectares of meadowland that are intended to be grazed in the future. Those comparing the nature-related features will find two distinct focal points: the direction of the path and the river crossing on the one hand, and the meadowland and planned grazing on the other.
Historical connections
Årslev Watermill was first mentioned in 1351 and was apparently still in operation in the 18th century. A church north of Slagelse was mentioned in 1211–1214 under the name Horslev or Årslev. The medieval manor Højsgd. in Årslev appears in 1438 as “Høwsgard”. These references concern different historical subjects: a mill, a church and a manor. Their locations also differ: the mill and manor are associated with Årslev, while the church is located north of Slagelse. In the case of the mill, an early mention and a cautious statement about its later operation appear side by side. The church and manor, by contrast, are documented through medieval names and dates; the three references can therefore be distinguished by subject and period.
