Stillinge Beach combines an open, west-facing coast with Strandtorvet and a long history as Slagelse residents’ preferred beach. The area is centrally located in a larger holiday-home district. The coastal setting, bathing conditions, layout of the square and seasonal nature experiences offer different points of reference when choosing a destination.

Beach and coastal setting

Stillinge Beach is about 310 metres long and between 25 and 50 metres wide. The sand is fine, with small stones along the water’s edge. Its open, west-facing aspect defines the coastal setting. If you are choosing a beach based on its surface and size, you can take into account both the fine sandy area and the stonier water’s edge, as well as the size of the stretch.

Strandtorvet between the car park and bathing beach

A car park is located just under 500 metres from the beach. Strandtorvet lies between the car park and the bathing beach, providing a distinct landmark along this stretch of coast. In 2020, the square was transformed from a former bus turning area into a place to relax and play. Strandtorvet has wooden terraces with benches, sun loungers and picnic tables. If you plan to make specific use of these facilities, check their current condition before your visit.

Bathing conditions and access

Stillinge Beach is considered particularly child-friendly. The water deepens gradually and the current is very limited. Weather and water movement can change local conditions. The beach is also accessible to wheelchair users; this accessibility may depend on the prevailing beach conditions. Bathing characteristics and access are two different aspects of a beach visit.

Seasonal nature experiences

Beaches with Blue Flag status, including Stillinge Beach, have rescue and first-aid equipment. This equipment may change from one season to the next. The 2026 Blue Flag programme also lists Stillinge Beach in connection with seasonal nature experiences led by a nature guide. If you would like to include such an experience in your travel plans, check in advance whether suitable dates fall during your stay.

History of the beach destination

Stillinge Beach was already exceptionally popular before the First World War and served as Slagelse residents’ preferred beach for many years. However, the historical use of the coast extended beyond the public beach: while a public beach was accessible, most of the surrounding coastal area belonged to a few families from Slagelse and the surrounding area. The history of the popular beach thus sits alongside the differing ownership of the other coastal areas.

The larger holiday-home district is part of the setting of Stillinge Beach. It describes the wider context of the beach destination, while the bathing beach and Strandtorvet name the specific places by the water. Together, these features paint a picture of a destination that takes into account both the coast itself and its place within the holiday-home area.
