When choosing a place to stay in Veddinge, you can focus on specific themes: the landscape shaped by the Ice Age, hiking trails, Geokids and Veddinge Beach. The places and trails offer different highlights—from the ridge to an outdoor art installation and a footpath down to the water. You can therefore plan your trip around whether nature, culture, hiking or the coast is your main focus.

Landscape along the Vejrhøjbuen

Veddinge Bakker lies along the Vejrhøjbuen ridge. Near Disbjerg is a meltwater gorge about 1.5 km long. The difference in elevation between its floor and the crest of the Vejrhøjbuen is up to 40 m. From Disbjerg, you can see a key feature of the Ice Age-shaped landscape of Geopark Odsherred. The gorge, ridge and view offer different ways to explore the landscape.

Hiking the Højderygstien

The Højderygstien follows the Vejrhøjbuen, a geological formation that took shape during the last Ice Age, about 17,000 years ago. The section across the ridge offers views of Sejerø Bay and Lammefjord. If you are interested in how the landscape was formed, you can combine geological history with views of the bay and fjord along the route.

One section of the Højderygstien runs through hilly terrain from a shelter site in Veddinge Bakker, past the Bronze Age burial mounds of Esterhøj and Maglehøj, and on to the Dutterhøje. These named points give the hike a clear route and complement the geological features with archaeological points of interest. The Istidsruten also runs near Veddinge Bakker at Skamlebækvej/Tranelunden.

Geokids: clay masks and an educational programme

Geokids, an outdoor art installation made up of 3,500 clay masks created by schoolchildren, is located near Veddinge Bakker. The project can be appreciated both through its many individual masks and through the story behind their creation: beforehand, all the schoolchildren completed an educational programme. It introduced them to the Ice Age, nature, food and cultural history, particularly the Odsherred painters.

There is a QR code on the back of each mask. Scanning it with a smartphone takes you to a short video about the schoolchild who made that particular mask. As well as showcasing the clay works, Geokids offers a brief glimpse of the person behind each individual mask. If cultural themes influence your choice of destination, this background to the project adds a distinctive perspective on the installation.

Getting to Veddinge Beach and fishing

To get to Veddinge Beach, turn off at Ellebakken, park at the end of the road by the daycare centre, and walk about 1 km along the path to the water. The approximate distance gives you a practical guide for planning your beach visit. You can fish for several kilometres in either direction along Veddinge Beach. This makes both the walk to the water and fishing key options for a coastal stay.
