Gudmindrup: Beach, Korevle and Arne Jacobsen’s Summer House
Accommodation in Gudmindrup
Gudmindrup is defined by Gudmindrup Beach, the coastal area of Korevle and Arne Jacobsen’s summer house in Gudmindrup Lyng. At the beach, dunes and its location on Sejerø Bay shape the landscape; in Korevle, the focus is on a protected barrier coast. The summer house adds architectural history to these natural features. When planning your trip, you can choose between spending time at the beach, taking a circular walk in the coastal area and joining an architecture-themed tour.
Gudmindrup Beach and Korevle
Gudmindrup Beach has dunes and is located on Sejerø Bay. Korevle is a barrier coast along the bay. The 75-hectare coastal area stretches from Gudmindrup Beach to Vig Lyng and has been protected since 1968. The names refer to different features: Gudmindrup Beach denotes the beach, while Korevle refers to the protected coastal area. This makes it possible to distinguish a beach visit from a tour through the Korevle landscape. The protected area and its extent offer a different point of reference from an individual stretch of beach.
On the northern Korevle loop trail
The northern loop trail in Korevle is about 5 km long and relatively easy. Trail conditions may vary seasonally. The starting point is the car park on Ellinge Strandvej; the route heads north to the car park at Gudmindrup Beach. From there, it follows the coast south across the sandbar. The return to the car park is via the southernmost footbridge. Several bridges in Korevle lead from the mainland across lagoon lakes to sandbars. These crossings are as useful for finding your way around the area as the coastline itself. When planning your loop, bear in mind that trail conditions can change depending on the season.
Seasonal beach facilities
At the end of Gudmindrup Strandvej, a ramp provides access to the water’s edge from 1 June to 31 August, including for wheelchair users. Lifeguards are on duty at Gudmindrup Beach from late June to late August. The periods differ in June: ramp access begins at the start of the month, while lifeguards begin work only toward the end of the month. If either of these facilities is important for your visit, check the latest information in advance.
Arne Jacobsen’s summer house
In 1937, Arne Jacobsen built a summer house in Gudmindrup Lyng as a holiday home for himself and his family. In cultural-historical terms, it is considered an ideological forerunner of a new architectural direction: the Nordic interpretation of Modernism. A tour inside and outside the summer house covers architecture, restoration and Arne Jacobsen’s time in the house. Advance booking is required for this tour. You can also join a tour of Arne Jacobsen’s own summer house with the Realdania By & Byg Club.
A visit to the summer house therefore offers a different focus from the beach and the loop trail: the emphasis is on the building’s history and its restoration. When planning, you can consider whether you mainly want to explore the coastal landscape or also set aside time for the architecture tour. The seasonal time frames for the beach facilities and the advance booking required for the tour are specific differences between the offerings.
