The protected area of Korevlen includes cadastral parcel 44 in Hønsinge By. Visitors may walk along the east side of the lagoon and use the protected areas for recreation and swimming. The protected coastal stretch on Sejerøbugten behind Korevlen extends south to cadastral parcel 1Q in Hønsinge By. The two parcel references indicate different geographical areas: parcel 44 is part of Korevlen, while parcel 1Q marks the southern end of the coastal stretch. For orientation, it is worth keeping these references distinct; the stated rights of use apply to Korevlen.
The Town’s Name and School History
The place name “Hønsinge” is documented in 1380. Earlier forms of the name include Hønes-enge, Hønæs-enge and Housinge. Because of the ending “-inge,” Hønsinge is considered one of the oldest settlements in the area.
Hønsinge Forskole is located on cadastral parcel 8b at Nykøbing-Slagelsevej 43 in Hønsinge, in the parish of Vig (Vig sogn), Odsherred. Until 1920, it served as a preschool for Vig. Examination records from Hønsinge Pogeskole dated 30 October 1879 have been preserved. Hønsinge therefore offers both a specific historical connection to education and a precisely dated record of its school history. Nearby, Bodilsminde was the residence of the Kinimond family.
The History of Hønsinge Mølle
In 1867, miller Peter Clausen built a Dutch-style windmill in Hønsinge. This Hønsinge Mølle burned down in 1921. A mill from Dalby near Tissø was then moved to Hønsinge and erected there in 1922. The dates therefore mark two successive construction phases: 1867 refers to the first mill built, while 1922 refers to the mill moved from Dalby. Production ceased in the 1950s; the mill was subsequently sold and used as a summer house. The change from milling to its later use as a summer house forms another chapter in the town’s history.
Equestrian Sports in Hønsinge
D4-HorseShow was held for the 13th time in 2025, in collaboration between Odsherreds Rideklub and Vemmelev Rideclub. The event took place at OHR’s outdoor arenas at Nykøbing-Slagelsevej 8A in Hønsinge. The riding arena at Nykøbing-Slagelsevej 10A in Hønsinge measures 20 × 80 metres. The competition area measures 20 × 50 metres, and the warm-up area measures 20 × 30 metres. Both areas are therefore 20 metres wide; the competition area is specified as 20 metres longer than the warm-up area. The overall scale of the arena can thus also be understood from the different areas of use.
