Discover Sortsø
Accommodation in Sortsø
Sortsø appeals to travelers with a range of interests: beach and woodland, an archaeological monument, a canoe and kayak route, and fishing at Sortsø Gab. The highlights below offer practical pointers for planning your visit—from a walk to a water route.
On foot: beach and woodland
From the “Overliggeren” site, you can reach Sortsø Strand beach. From the same site, you can also walk through the woodland and under the Farøbroen. Visiting the beach and passing beneath the bridge are two different highlights for a walk: one takes you to the shore, the other under the structure. You can choose your walking route based on which of these experiences interests you most.
The “Overliggeren” shelter cannot be booked and is available for free use. Check before your visit whether access is currently possible.
An archaeological detail in Sortsø Fredskov
At “Langhøj, mv., Sortsø Fredskov (#2),” there is an open stone chamber in the middle of the mound. It runs lengthwise along the dolmen structure and is located 7.50 m from its south-southeastern end. For those interested in cultural history, the distinctive feature lies in the construction and its precise position within the mound: the chamber is open, aligned lengthwise, and situated within the structure.
On the water: route and current warning
The “Falster rundt – Etape 2” canoe and kayak route is about 26 km long and circumnavigates the headland at Sortsø. This gives you a clear point of comparison when choosing between a walk and paddling: the water route has an approximate stated length and goes around the headland. A warning has been issued about strong currents in the Grønsund along this route. Take this into account when planning, and check the latest route information before setting out.
View from the harbor and bus connection
From Sortsø Fritidshavn, you have a direct view of Bogø and the Farøbroen. The bridge can therefore be seen from a different perspective than on the walk: from the harbor, it is part of the view, while the path from “Overliggeren” passes beneath it. Bogø is also among the sights visible from the harbor.
For bus travel, route 35 is a useful reference point. It runs between Stubbekøbing, Sortsø and Nr. Alslev. Check the timetable for your travel date if you would like to include this connection in your plans.
Fishing and habitat at Sortsø Gab
At Sortsø Gab, a channel with a water depth of 20 to 25 m can be reached from the fishing spot. The spot is considered particularly suitable for migratory sea trout; local fishing conditions may vary. The stated water depth and the assessment of its suitability for sea trout offer anglers two different points of reference: the accessible channel and its suitability for this target fish.
The habitat at Sortsø Gab is also described in specific terms: boulders ranging up to large granite rocks provide hiding places for amphipods, shrimp and small fish. This brings the structures that shape this coastal area into focus alongside fishing.
