If you would like to include nature watching and cultural and historical traces in your stay, Listrup offers several points of interest. These include the Listrup Lyng bog, trails in Hannenov and Ovstrup Skov, and historic sites such as Falsters Virke and the Listrup Jættestue.

Moorland and Nature Watching

Listrup Lyng, also known as Borremosen, is a large bog area by the Tingsted Å. Several small lakes in the bog were created by peat extraction. White water lilies can be seen in the lakes during the summer months. The bog, water and traces of earlier land use give the landscape its varied character.

Despite its small size, Listrup Lyng has a good and comparatively large population of the rare large white-faced darter. Much of the area around Listrup Lyng consists of wooded peat bog and beech forest. The landscape can also be understood in geographical context: the Falster Ås ridge system ends at Listrup, south of Hannenov Skov.

You can watch fallow deer in Hannenov and Ovstrupskovene all year round, although the animals are very shy. Watching wildlife therefore calls for taking a quiet look around.

Planning Trails and Activities

A marked hiking trail runs around Borremosen, also known as Listrup Lyng. A 2016 trail guide also describes the red route of the Sporet Præsteskoven-Skjørringe-Virket Sø circular trail: it is 3.4 km long and passes through Listrup Lyng, then continues over a footbridge to Skjørringe Lyng on Skjørringe Gods. Check the route locally, as trail conditions may change seasonally. The 2016 guide also mentions a short detour south, with views over the meadows and peat cuttings of Borremosen near the Sparekasseeg oak.

Other routes explore the forests, with different lengths and themes. The 4.5 km Hjertesti trail runs through Ovstrup Skov. The 42 km Motionsslangen runs through Hannenov and Ovstrup Skov. The Munkevejen cycling route passes through Hannenov Skov and tells the story of the introduction of Christianity in the lands around the Baltic Sea. The distances mentioned range from the 3.4 km circular trail via the Hjertesti to the 42 km Motionsslangen.

Fishing is permitted in the lake at Listrup Lyng with a valid fishing licence. There is also a picnic area at Listrup Lyng. The car park in the northern part of Hannenov Skov is a good starting point for walks in the northern part of the forest and at Listrup Lyng. As car park facilities may change, check their condition before your visit.

Forest and Cultural History

Falsters Virke is a 1.3 km-long system of earthworks that runs through Hannenov Skov. It served as a refuge where the local population could seek shelter in dangerous times. Its length and function make the earthwork system interesting both as part of the forest landscape and as a testament to history.

Opposite Virkethus, at the northeastern corner of Hannenov Skov, you can see the remains of Frederik Vilhelm Berregaard’s experimental nursery. Berregaard began his experimental work in 1871. The chamber of the Listrup Jættestue on Falster is up to about 15 m long. A burial ground with cremation urns from the Early Iron Age was also excavated at the passage grave, dating from about 500 BC to 375 AD.

When planning your trip, you can choose how to balance nature, activity and history in Listrup: from the lakes and seasonal water lilies in Borremosen to hiking and cycling routes, earthworks and archaeological traces.
