Guldborg combines forest and coastal landscapes with cycling routes, a harbour and historical sites. If you’re looking for a hotel in Guldborg, you can choose the focus of your stay based on whether you’d like to explore on foot, plan a bike ride, watch birds in flat terrain or enjoy activities on the water. Storskov borders Guldborg directly and stretches along the coast to Vigsnæs. Local options offer different highlights: nature watching, exercise, water and history are each associated with specific places or activities.

Forest, routes and historical traces

Guldborg Storskov has walking and cycling routes that offer opportunities to experience its plant and animal life. If you enjoy spending the day in the countryside, you can choose between trails on foot and by bike, with nature watching as a shared focus. The forest is also home to a defensive earthwork dating from the English Wars. Svenskeskansen is a fortification dating from the Swedish War of 1659. The two historical sites refer to different wars: the earthwork in Storskov to the English Wars, and Svenskeskansen to the conflict of 1659.

Cycling across the bridge and along a circular route

There are two distinct route options for cycling. National Cycle Route 7 crosses the Guldborgsund Bridge and is signposted along its entire length. At the harbour in Guldborg, it offers a rest stop with views across the Guldborgsund. Check the route conditions and local signage before setting off. Fuglenes fristeder, by contrast, is a circular cycling route that starts and ends at Guldborg Harbour; it is signposted in one direction only, counterclockwise. Near Guldborg, this route offers opportunities for birdwatching in flat terrain. The routes differ in format: Route 7 crosses the Guldborgsund Bridge, while Fuglenes fristeder loops back to the harbour and specifies a direction of travel.

Water and harbour

At Guldborg Harbour, you can sail, go motorboating, canoeing and kayaking. The kayak bridge at the harbour is intended to encourage more activity at the harbour, improve general access to water activities and promote kayak tourism. For your planning, water-based activities range from sailing and motorboating to paddling. Guldborg Harbour marina is right next to the 75-year-old Guldborg Bridge; there used to be a small ferry crossing at this location. The Guldborg Bridge opens on request. If you need it to open for your plans, check the procedure in advance.

An early reference to the settlement

The period before 1804 is also important to the history of the settlement: until then, the only building on the site of what is now Guldborg was a ferry house.
