Bylderup-Bov brings together railway history, church heritage and outdoor activities. These themes offer different ways to choose where to stay: the railway history explains the development of the town, Bylderup Church brings together several historical layers, and canoeing and kayaking take centre stage on the Grønå. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can therefore plan your trip around history, architecture or outdoor activities.

Railway and Local History

Bylderup-Bov grew up around a railway line laid in 1867. The station was built in open countryside between Bov and Bylderup because the two villages could not agree on its location. The town also has a nature trail running between the tracks of a disused section of railway. The trail can be accessed from Engvej, where there is good parking. This makes it a distinct activity for visitors who want to combine local history with a walk outdoors.

Church and Historical Layers

Bylderup Church is a second focal point in the town’s history. Its oldest parts date from the 13th century; originally, it was the main church of Slogs Herred. The building includes a Late Romanesque apse, a chancel and a nave. A medieval armoury stands beside the south portal. These details provide several historical points of reference for the church: its age, its former role and its specific architectural features.

During a comprehensive restoration in 1952, an attempt was made to return the church to its original Romanesque form. During the 2015 renovation, furnishings were restored or replaced in collaboration with the National Museum. The two projects had different focuses: the 1952 restoration aimed to recover the church’s form, while the 2015 work concerned its furnishings. The history of Kirkekroen also dates back to the 18th century. The parish hall is known for its annual Højskoledage. The historical timeline therefore stretches from the oldest parts of the church, dating from the 13th century, through Kirkekroen to the railway line laid in 1867.

Nature and Outdoor Activities

For outdoor activities, you can choose between a water route and an outdoor swimming pool. The Grønå canoe and kayak route starts at the end of Ålykke in Bylderup-Bov. The outdoor pool at Bylderup Sports Centre purifies its water according to natural biological swimming principles, without chlorine. It has a large swimming pool, a shallow-water area with a beach edge, and a separate children’s pool. The choice of activity is clear: take a canoe or kayak trip along the route, or enjoy the different pool areas at the outdoor pool.

Accommodation and Surroundings

The type of accommodation is also relevant when planning an overnight stay: Slog Herreds Spejderhus is a camp accommodation in scenic surroundings, about 100 metres from Slogs Å. Its approximate location by the river complements the town’s nature themes, without equating camp accommodation with a hotel.
