Discover Lild Strand: Dune Landscapes, Trails and Coastal Culture
Accommodation in Lild Strand
Natural Areas and Protected Sites
Lild Strandkær is a natural, elongated dune lake near Lildstrand. It runs parallel to the coastline. Areas southwest of Lild Strand are part of Natura 2000 site No. 44, “Lild Strand and Lild Strandkær.” The site’s protection is based on 11 habitat types, with dune habitats being the most important.
The heathland southwest of Lild Strand, between Redningsvejen and the forest areas, is designated as a quiet zone. This designation particularly supports the breeding birds native to the area. Green woodpeckers and great spotted woodpeckers are often seen among the older trees in Lild Klitplantage. You can also walk from Lild Strand to the dog forest in Lild Klitplantage. The car park on Sandnæshagevej near Lild Strand is close to the beach.
Hiking and Wildlife Watching
Dark Sky Park Bulbjerg covers the areas of Bulbjerg-Troldsting-Lild Strand and extends across 12.54 square kilometres. It offers opportunities for wildlife watching, photography and hiking. Wildlife observation and the various trails offer different focuses, and not all activities use the same route.
The white hiking trail starts at the car park on Strandvejen/Østvejen and leads to the observation tower. Another option is the short Sansevandring hike at Lildstrand: it leads from the car park at the landing place via Strandkærvej, past the church and through the dunes to the beach. The return route follows the beach to the landing place. The hike takes about 40 minutes; breaks and the number of stones collected affect the time.
A longer hike is described as a tour from Lildstrand to Bulbjerg and back along the beach. It takes about two hours. The two time estimates are therefore quite different: Sansevandring is a shorter loop, while more time is needed for the tour to Bulbjerg. Trail conditions may vary.
Cycling Routes
National Cycle Route No. 1, Vestkyststien, runs through Lild and Vester Thorup Klitplantage. There are also two routes, each 3 kilometres long. The blue route starts at the car park on Gl. Aalborgvej and passes through forest, meadow, fen and heathland. The yellow route starts at the car park on Strandvejen near Rotbølgård and runs through completely flat terrain.
Both short routes are the same length, but differ in their described trail features and starting points: the blue route focuses on the landscapes it passes through, while the yellow route is characterised by flat terrain. This information can help you choose a route based on the scenery you want or the explicitly described trail conditions.
Church, Coastal Boat and Local Offerings
Lild Strand Church is housed in a former boathouse for the lifeboat, built in 1883. It was first consecrated as a church on 2 April 1950. The church has a freestanding bell frame with an old bell from Lild Church. Arent Kleiman cast it in Lübeck in 1674. The coastal boat Skarreklit is also moored at the landing place at Lild Strand.
Kreativitetshuset at Strandkanten in Lildstrand offers a gallery as well as courses and workshops. If you would like to take part in a course or workshop, check the latest dates beforehand. Membership in Lildstrand Bådelaug gives you the opportunity to go deep-sea fishing with like-minded people who know the sea. Check the membership requirements before taking part.
Lildstrand Røgeri sells fresh and smoked fish all year round. As operating arrangements can change, it is advisable to check the latest details before visiting. This makes it easier to plan your stay in Lild Strand around nature trails, culture and local offerings.
