Frøstrup can be understood through several distinct themes: the development of a railway town, historic milling technology and energy solutions, Niels Hald’s art, and the dune and sea views near Bulbjerg. In particular, the timeline of the railway’s history and the scale of Frøstrup Minilandsby help explain the historical context of the site.

Railway History in Miniature

Frøstrup came into being in connection with the construction of the Thisted-Fjerritslev railway between 1904 and 1908. Frøstrup Minilandsby features a scale model of the railway town as it looked between 1904 and 1920; its houses are built to a scale of 1:10. A scale of 1:10 means that the model dimensions are one tenth of the size represented. The two periods refer to different things: 1904 to 1908 describes the connection between the railway and the town’s origins, while 1904 to 1920 describes the historical appearance depicted. The model therefore covers a period that extends beyond the railway’s construction. The Minilandsby also includes a reconstructed railway that follows the original route through the town. The display thus includes both the houses of the railway town and a connection to the former railway line.

Watermill and Energy Solutions

Frøstrup Vandmølle also adds to the technology theme. Historically, it was an undershot watermill: water powered the mill wheel from below. A full-size, true-to-scale reconstruction is located in Sansehaven, on Frøstrup’s activity area at Søndergade 16. Compared with the Minilandsby, the reconstruction focuses on a single full-size structure, while the miniature display encompasses an entire railway town. Energipunkt Frøstrup is a demonstration house for energy solutions. The two technical themes take different approaches: the mill represents a historic milling principle, while Energipunkt demonstrates energy solutions.

Niels Hald’s Art

Niels Hald’s Fabelverden features paintings indoors and outdoors, as well as small sculptures made of ceramic and glass. Niels Hald’s house, workshop and complete work of art have been preserved in Frøstrup. This gives Niels Hald’s art a local connection to Frøstrup. For art enthusiasts, the collection adds an artistic perspective to the history of the town.
