Gjøl lies on the northern shore of the Limfjord. The town offers several specific themes to help you plan your trip: water sports, three hiking trails of varying lengths, birdwatching and cultural history.

Landscape, Water and Nature

Gjøl Bjerg is a moraine deposit of sand, gravel and stones. This geological feature adds a perspective on the landscape to the themes of the harbor and water.

Visitors to Gjøl can try windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and dinghy sailing. Gjøl Havn offers maritime activities, with ideal conditions for kayakers and surfers. According to the municipality, the nature and culture café at Gjøl Havn focuses on the nature of the Limfjord and the harbor’s maritime culture.

A municipal bathing water profile is available for the bathing area at Gjøl Havn, southwest of the mole. Before swimming, check the current bathing conditions and classification.

Ulvedybet can be reached from Gjøl; a birdwatching tower is located at the western end of the causeway. Ulvedybet is an important resting place for migratory birds, particularly ducks and wading birds.

Hiking Trails by Distance

The three named routes can be compared by their stated distances:

  • The green “Byen og Strandenge” route is 5 km long.
  • The red “Tyskerbakken” route is 6 km long.
  • The blue “Gjøl Rundt” route is 10 km long.

The red route is 1 km longer than the green one; the blue route is 4 km longer than the red one. The listed distances therefore range from 5 to 10 km.

Gjøl Havn also has a literary connection: the harbor inspired a book published in 1928.
