Humlum: Church, Fishing Village and Limfjord
Accommodation in Humlum
Humlum lies close to the Limfjord and combines an open moraine landscape with a long church history and the Humlum Fiskerleje. If you are looking for hotels in Humlum, its different attractions help you get a sense of the destination: historic sites, landscape and activities on the water shape your stay.
Cultural History and Fishing Village
Humlum Church is a medieval church that is more than 800 years old. It served as a navigation mark for sailors on the Limfjord. The Struer–Humlum–Toftum–Gudum route passes the church; it is listed as the route’s fifth stop and attraction. The Humlum Fiskerleje has small, red-painted fishing houses.
The Åmølle, located near Humlum, is a 500-year-old listed watermill. It operated until 1953 and is now run by volunteers as a place for interpreting local history. The church and the mill illustrate different historical roles: the church’s role as a navigation mark and the mill’s former operation, now complemented by its interpretive work.
Landscape Between Shore and Hills
Humlum and Resen lie close to the Limfjord and have an open moraine landscape with fields and small woodland areas. The surrounding area also features fields, living windbreak hedges and nature areas protected under Section 3. These nature areas are maintained through grazing and haymaking to promote biodiversity and landscape quality.
Remmerstrand–Resen Kær lies west of Humlum. Low-lying beach areas and valleys sit alongside distinctive slopes and hills. Near Humlum, the Breinholt Arch consists of gentle hills reaching up to 46 metres; prehistoric burial mounds are found on the highest hills. Here, low-lying shores and valleys contrast with the gentler elevations of the Breinholt Arch.
Water, Beach and Routes
The Humlum Fiskerleje is suitable for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. A slipway is available for launching boats, and the harbour has water and electricity connections. Parking is available at the beach and by the campsite. Regional Route 24 continues to the Humlum Fiskerleje.
Bredalsvig Beach is east of Humlum, by the Humlum Fiskerleje and campsite. The water park at the Humlum Fiskerleje is next to Humlum Camping, on a child-friendly sandy beach by the Limfjord, and is suitable for a family outing. Wearing a life jacket is mandatory in the water park; life jackets can be rented on site.
When spending time on the water, it helps to distinguish between the options: paddling and launching boats are available at the Humlum Fiskerleje; the water park, meanwhile, is family-oriented and requires a life jacket. In the wider regional context, on the Limfjordcaminoen, hikers carry their own luggage throughout the route, so packing light is recommended.
