Langå between the Gudenå, hiking trails and history
Accommodation in Langå
Langå offers various ways to plan a trip combining nature and history. You can explore hiking trails and landscape themes, discover the medieval Langå Church, or include cultural venues and events in your plans. When looking for a hotel in Langå, it helps to think in advance about which of these themes matter for your stay.
Hiking trails and nature
The Trækstien is a 76-kilometre protected hiking trail between Randers and Silkeborg. For comparison when planning, Regional Route 29 is also worth considering: it connects Langå and Randers along the edge of the Gudenå and is a cycling route.
Another nature highlight is the Gudenå meadows between Randers and Langå. Migratory birds can be observed there, especially in spring and autumn. This seasonal feature gives your planning a specific time frame: birdwatching is highlighted for these two seasons.
Langå Egeskov is a protected wood pasture where cattle still graze. Both its protected status and continued grazing are part of its described character. Stage 17 of the Gudenå Trail leads to Langå Egeskov. If you include hiking in your trip, this stage provides a specific route connection to the woodland, while the Trækstien—with its length and endpoints in Randers and Silkeborg—offers a different route description.
Church, runestone and local culture
Langå Church is a medieval church and the oldest building in the town. The original nave and chancel were probably built in the 13th century. The tower and porch were probably constructed in the late 15th century.
A runestone from the late Viking Age, dating to around 970–1020, stands in the cemetery of Langå Church. The runestone by the church tower is the only one of the six runestones found in Langå that still stands in the town. The church and runestone therefore offer two distinct historical points of reference: the architectural history of a medieval building and an archaeological find from an earlier era.
The old railway station building is also a venue for contemporary cultural life. Station K hosts concerts and band camps on the first floor. The Vestpark Festival has taken place almost continuously since 1978 and is still held in Vestparken in early August; dates may vary from year to year. If you are planning a trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant year.
Langå Marina has a public toilet; the picnic shelter houses a nature exhibition about the formation of the Gudenå and other topics. These practical facilities and the exhibition add a specific place for visitors to the hiking and nature themes.
