Handbjerg: Marina, swimming and nature

Handbjerg Marina lies in Venø Bay on the Limfjord between Vinderup and Struer. Marina and accommodation options

Handbjerg Marina has 200 berths. The slipway can be used by both day visitors and annual pass holders. You can rent bicycles and kayaks through the Grejbank. You can also rent a boat at Handbjerg Marina to explore the Limfjord on your own.

On the east side of the pier at Handbjerg Marina, there are two shelters, each with six sleeping spaces. Separately, a shelter belonging to the Handbjerg Borgerforening in Søparken at the end of Fjordglimt can be booked. If you are planning to stay in this shelter, check its availability in advance.

Swimming by the water

Badeøen is accessible via the bridge by the nature playground and is suitable for swimming with small children because the water is very shallow. Handbjerg Marina also has a sandy beach, as well as bathing and toilet facilities. At low tide, you can walk a long way out from the beach without getting your trousers wet. During the summer season, a diving platform for headfirst dives is located in the Handbjerg Marina lagoon, between the western pier head and the inner pier. Badeøen and the lagoon therefore offer different swimming experiences: shallow water on the island or a seasonal platform for headfirst dives.

Activities at different times of year

The marina offers good opportunities for windsurfing and minigolf; another attraction is the barefoot sensory path, where you can feel sand, stones and shells underfoot. For winter swimming, visitors can buy guest tickets from Vinterbaderne Handbjerg Marina; the sauna and shower are included. If you are planning a visit, check the available booking periods in advance.

The diving platform is available during the summer season, while the guest tickets are for winter swimming. The water activities therefore also vary depending on when you travel. Windsurfing and boat hire add to the range of activities around the marina.

Nature and history

In the direction of Vinderup, the Handbjerg coastal meadows stretch along the fjord. They are a protected bird area; you can walk by the fjord through the meadows. This offers a distinct alternative to the activities at the marina and connects a stay in Handbjerg with time spent in the fjord landscape.

Handbjerg Church was built during the great period of church construction in the 12th and 13th centuries. If historic buildings are among your travel interests, the church adds a cultural dimension to the nature and water themes. Dogs are welcome at Handbjerg Marina but must be kept on a leash.
