Juelsminde: Hotels for the beach, harbor and culture

Juelsminde combines a maritime focus with beaches and walking trails. When planning your trip, you can explore the town from very different perspectives: the history of the harbor, trails through the coastal landscape, or leisure activities in town. This lets you get to know Juelsminde through the subjects that interest you most.

Beaches and coastal trails

Storstranden has been awarded the international Blue Flag. As its status can change from season to season, check it before your trip. A 2.5-kilometer walking trail starts at Juelsminde Marina, follows Storstranden beach, and leads to the tip of Bjørnsknude. The starting point, stretch of beach and destination are therefore all part of a clearly described route.

Another option is the Kyststien Snaptun–Juelsminde, a walking route between the two towns. Its character comes from the landscapes it passes through: deep forests, wide sandy beaches, idyllic villages and impressive manor parks. While the route from the marina to the tip of Bjørnsknude describes a specific stretch along the beach, the Kyststien offers a succession of different landscapes. Which description better suits your walking plans depends on whether you are looking for a specific stretch by the water or a longer tour between two towns.

The harbor and maritime history

The Juelsminde Harbor Museum explores the history of the harbor, as well as the various trades and activities that have shaped life there over time. The museum also has a realistic ship simulator with a virtual ship environment. The harbor is therefore not just a setting for maritime history: the museum combines a look back at the past with a vivid portrayal of seafaring.

An anchor from the frigate Jylland stands in the harbor and serves as a town landmark. Buildings in the harbor area also tell different chapters of the town’s history: the area is home to an official’s residence in the historicist style, as well as Lokomotivhuset, built in 1884. Each of the anchor, the buildings and the museum offers a different focus—from a maritime landmark to named buildings with their own historical context.

The Harbor Museum regularly holds smoking days featuring smoked mackerel, beer and music. Check the museum’s current event dates before your trip. Juelsminde Harbor Festival takes place every year from Wednesday to Sunday in calendar week 28; it is also worth checking the current annual program if you want to plan your stay around the festival.

Activities and different ways to explore

During the Tiger Hunt in Juelsminde, clues lead to 25 small stone tiger sculptures. Each tiger has a QR code that lets you read its story. The Juelsminde Round Treasure Hunt is organized differently: the four-kilometer treasure hunt includes entertaining tasks and a specially made medal. One activity focuses on the sculptures and their stories, while the other centers on the tasks along the treasure hunt.

Juelsminde Nature Playground offers a slide, multi-purpose sports courts, woodland fitness and a Tarzan course. There are also two padel courts that can be booked. Activity details and booking information may change before your trip, so check them before your visit. This way, you can plan for the different offerings separately instead of assuming they will all be available on the same day.

Planning your visit and getting around

At Juelsminde Church, opening depends on whether staff are present. Possible opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the church is not guaranteed to be open when you arrive. If you would like to visit, check in advance whether it is open. Inside is an exact model of the frigate Jylland, which was hung there in 1914.

Regional buses 104 and 105 run from Juelsminde to Horsens; bus 205 runs to Vejle. Check current routes and timetables before departure.
