Barrit can be explored through its trails, forest landscape, and historic sites. These include the hiking trails in Staksrode Skov, the Stagsevold castle ruins, the Tønne-Reetz Chapel at Barrit Church, and the burial mounds in Barrit Tykke. They differ in trail length, landscape, and historical period. If you are looking for a hotel in Barrit, you can take these points of interest into account: Would you rather go hiking, get to know the natural landscape, or explore historic traces?

Choose hiking trails by length and destination

Stagsevold can only be reached on foot. From the forest car park at the end of Staksrodevej, a yellow-marked, 2.4-kilometre circular route leads to the castle ruins. Its length, markings, and destination give this hike a clear focus. If you mainly want to visit Stagsevold, the circular route offers a practical guide to the distance involved.

Staksrode Skov has three marked hiking trails ranging from 2.5 to 5 kilometres. They all start at the forest car park at the end of Stenhøjsvej. In terms of the stated distances, the 2.4-kilometre circular route is shorter than the shortest of these three trails. The starting points also have different names: Staksrodevej is given for the route to Stagsevold, while Stenhøjsvej is given for the forest hiking trails. You can therefore make your choice based on destination, starting point, and distance rather than comparing the trails by name alone.

Staksrode Skov: Forest, slopes, and plants

Staksrode Skov covers 218 hectares. In addition to its marked trails, the landscape features wooded slopes that are regularly affected by landslides. Rare flowers, including protected orchids, also grow there. The forest area, hiking routes, and natural features give you different ways to plan your visit: trail distances help you compare how far you will walk, while the slopes and plant life characterize the natural landscape. Those interested in nature and hiking will find more than a single route to focus on here.

Historic traces from different periods

The many burial mounds in Barrit Tykke bear witness to an exceptional Neolithic heritage. Another historic site is the Stagsevold castle ruins, which date from the 14th century. Today, only the cellar walls of the original castle remain. The ruins’ date and the surviving part of the structure offer two different points of reference: Stagsevold is known as a medieval castle, but only part of its original building remains.

The Tønne-Reetz Chapel at Barrit Church also points to a different period. It was added to the church in the 16th century. Together, the Neolithic burial mounds, the 14th-century castle ruins, and the 16th-century chapel addition provide a historical timeline for Barrit. This means you can plan your visit not only around hiking routes, but also around the different historical periods.
