The Gudenå River flows through Tørring and on to Uldum Kær, immediately to the east. Uldum Kær covers 1,200 hectares and is Denmark’s largest contiguous marshland. This brings together a river landscape and an extensive wetland area in Tørring. This gives you two specific options for your stay: canoe trips on the river and signposted trails through the town and wetland.

Canoeing on the Gudenå River

Tørring is a starting point for canoe trips on the Gudenå River. Tørring Kanoudlejning & Kanofart rents out canoes and kayaks for trips on the river; check availability before you arrive. The southernmost stretch of the Gudenå River from Tørring is considered particularly suitable for beginners, although water conditions can vary. Check the conditions before setting out. When planning your trip, you have two different choices to make: whether to take a canoe or kayak, and whether to choose the southernmost stretch, which is considered particularly suitable for beginners.

Walking trails in Tørring

Hjertestien is a signposted walking trail of manageable length through Tørring and the surrounding wetland to Verdens Ende. The route information was updated in June 2025. In March 2026, a new bridge over the Gudenå River and longer sections of boardwalk on the Gudenåstien in Tørring were reported. Maintenance or flooding can change conditions; check the state of the trail before your visit.

The two trails have different features to help you choose: Hjertestien passes through the town and wetland to a named endpoint, while the bridge and longer sections of boardwalk in Tørring are the highlights of the Gudenåstien. This gives you a clear guide without adding a walking time or trail length that has not been specified for these routes.

Church and local archive

Tørring Church has a chancel and nave dating from around 1200, a porch from the early 16th century, and a tower from the 17th century. The tower has a rare octagonal domed roof. The church’s distinct building elements and dates give it a clear architectural point of interest alongside the town’s nature and trails.

Sports and getting around locally

At Gudenåcenteret, Tørring IF Padel has three outdoor padel courts; pay-and-play is also available. The sports hall at Gudenåcenteret is equipped for handball, indoor football, gymnastics, basketball and badminton. As well as trails and river trips, these offer specific outdoor and indoor sports to consider when planning your stay.

Tørring Camping is located on the Gudenå River in the town centre and has a café and ice cream parlour. Facilities and services may change. If these offerings are important to your stay, check in advance what will be available during your visit.
