Skæring brings together beaches, nature and cultural history. When planning a stay, you can consider whether your focus should be on bathing spots, a view across Aarhus Bay, a hiking route or history. The beach areas differ in their specific features; the park and heath each add different aspects of nature and remembrance.

Beaches and Beach Park

Slugten is a bathing beach in Skæring with seating and a barbecue area adapted for wheelchair users. The beach is suitable for people with disabilities. The statements about the beach and the barbecue area should be distinguished: the suitability applies to the beach; the barbecue area is specifically adapted for wheelchair users.

The beach area near Grønspættevej borders a holiday-home area and includes a fine sandy beach with a lifeguard station, as well as an adjacent grassy area. The areas can therefore be distinguished by their different features: at Slugten, the focus is on seating and the adapted barbecue area; at Grønspættevej, on the sandy beach, lifeguard station and grassy area.

Skæring Beach Park is suitable for swimming and other outdoor activities. From the park, there is a view across Aarhus Bay towards Studstrup Power Station. Swimming and other activities are the park’s main uses; the named view adds a specific landscape perspective. If you would like to consider both outdoor recreation and the view when choosing a destination, these are the two key aspects of the beach park.

Skæring Hede: Landscape and Hiking

Skæring Hede lies close to the sea in a holiday-home area and was formerly a shooting range. The area consists of woodland planted with pine and birch trees, as well as smaller heathland areas. Its former use as a shooting range and its mix of woodland and heathland show two different sides of the place: its land-use history and its landscape character.

There is an equipment station at Skæring Hede. The equipment must be booked before use. Check the booking arrangements in advance if you plan to use the station, as the regulations may change.

A hiking route near Skødstrup leads to the Mindelunden memorial grove on Skæring Hede. It is marked with a hiking symbol and is 4.7 kilometres long. Its length provides a concrete basis for planning; the symbol identifies it as a marked hiking route. It also has a named destination, the Mindelunden, connecting the route with the history of the area.

Remembrance and History

The Mindelunden commemorates five resistance fighters who were executed there during the occupation. Skæring Munkegård represents a different period in the area’s history: in the Middle Ages, the farm belonged to the landholdings of Øm Abbey. Remembrance of the occupation and the history of medieval ownership are therefore two distinct points of reference if you are interested in Skæring’s history.
