Hummingen is located on the south coast of Lolland; Hummingen Beach is a sandy beach. If you are looking for a hotel in Hummingen, you can first consider what matters most for your stay: the beach, paths along the dike, or a bike ride through the town and on to other destinations. There is a bathing jetty at the beach. These different points of reference can help you plan your stay around specific places and routes.

Beach and dike

In 2025, bathing water at Hummingen was classified as “excellent”; this was based on samples from the 2021 to 2024 bathing seasons. When choosing a stretch of beach, the sandy beach and bathing jetty are concrete features of the location, while the water classification applies to a specific year. This lets you consider the beach and bathing water as distinct aspects of your plans.

By car, access to Hummingen Beach is via Østersøparken to the beach car park. The Lollandske Dige lies beside the beach and is accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. Near Hummingen, a route leads up onto the dike, offering views of the reclaimed land and the Fehmarn Belt. The beach and the dike are therefore different points of reference: one focuses on the stretch of coast with its bathing jetty, while the other is a route with views across the reclaimed land and the Fehmarn Belt. The dike was built to prevent a similar catastrophe. Its protective function is part of its significance, as is its accessibility to pedestrians and cyclists.

Cycling routes around Hummingen

The “Det flade Lolland” cycling route starts and ends in Kramnitze and heads west from there through Hummingen. Hummingen is therefore on a route that starts and finishes in Kramnitze. You can follow the route in the “Naturlandet Lolland-Falster” app. If you would like to use the app for navigation, check that it is currently available beforehand.

Another cycling connection is the “Østersøruten”, which runs along the dike from Hummingen to Rødbyhavn. From Hummingen, you can continue east along this route and take the “Nakskov Fjordstien” cycle path along the fjord to the centre of Nakskov. The routes mentioned provide different points of reference for choosing a route: one passes through Hummingen and starts and ends in Kramnitze; the other runs along the dike to Rødbyhavn and is described as a continuation towards Nakskov.

Another point of reference

The Digegaarden shelter site is in the Hummingen holiday-home area, behind the Lollandske Dige. Seasonal operating restrictions may apply at this site, so check the conditions before visiting. Together with the beach access and the cycling routes described, it gives a concrete picture of the different points of reference in Hummingen.
