Espergærde: Beach, Nature and Harbour
Accommodation in Espergærde
Espergærde offers a range of things to explore during a stay: the beach and harbour, natural landscapes, and cultural history. When choosing a hotel for a trip, it can help to first decide what you would like to focus on. This makes it possible to consider the town from several perspectives.
Beach and harbour
Espergærde Harbour is next to a 500-metre-long sandy beach with clean bathing water. Espergærde Strand Syd is south of the harbour and is a sandy beach. Just north of the harbour is Espergærde Strand Nord, a small stretch of beach. The harbour itself has both a historic and a present-day role: originally established in 1880 as a small fishing village, it is now a cosy marina.
There is a fire pit on Espergærde Beach, ten metres from the shore. As facilities can change, check that it is available before your visit.
Nature and trails
Near Espergærde and Snekkersten lies Egebæksvang, a woodland close to the coast. In the southern part of the woodland are Store Egebæks Mose and Lille Egebæks Mose; both are key areas for nature conservation. Egebæksvang thus combines woodland close to the coast with two areas that are important for nature conservation.
Rørtang Kystkile is a different type of landscape: the Landskaber i Balance project is located in this protected landscape, an open landscape corridor between Espergærde and Snekkersten. The contrast between the coastal woodland and the open corridor shows two different landscape settings.
Nearby, the 1.5 km-long health trail runs through Egebæksvang. Its length gives you a specific distance to use when planning your route. The Espergærde–Dronningmølle cycle route offers a different focus: it runs through Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park. One route is defined by its stated length, while the other is distinguished by its passage through the national park.
Cultural history and architecture
Near Helsingør is Flynderupgård, home to the easternmost information point in Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park. The farm presents the history of Denmark as an agricultural country. Flynderupgård also offers plenty of outdoor experiences for children and adults in the surrounding countryside. Nature and the history of Denmark as an agricultural country thus come together there.
Both the design and artistic decoration of Egebæksvang Church are important points of interest. The church was designed by architect Ludvig Knudsen. Its ornamentation and multicoloured stained-glass windows were created by Joakim Skovgaard and Thorvald Bindesbøll. Mørdrup Church adds another perspective on church architecture: architecturally, it is part of Espergærde Centret. Whereas the design and artistic decoration are the main focus at Egebæksvang Church, Mørdrup Church is notable for its architectural relationship with a centre.
