Discover Munkebo through its walking trails, landscape and local history. The options differ in form: Munkebostien encircles the town on one continuous route, Kløverstien i Munkebo comprises four routes, and a shorter paved path runs through Munkebo Multipark. These differences can help you choose: a longer walk, several routes or exercise in the park.

Walking trails and outdoor activities

Munkebostien is a 20-kilometre continuous walking trail. It encircles Munkebo from Odense Fjord in the north to Kertinge Nor in the south. There are 15 information boards along the route, each providing information about the history and nature of the area in question. In this way, the trail combines a specific distance with topics relating to the areas it passes through. When planning your walk, you can take both into account: the route around Munkebo and the information about local history and nature along the way.

Kløverstien i Munkebo consists of four routes, all starting at a centrally located Kløverstipæl. Their themes include the history of Lindøværftet, the Nor and the fjord, the moraine landscape, villages and the cultural landscape around Munkebo. Compared with the 20-kilometre Munkebostien, the four routes and their shared starting point offer a different way to choose. The themes also differ: here, history and landscape are brought together as part of the route.

A 1.6-kilometre paved path runs around the entire park at Munkebo Multipark. It is suitable for walking, running and cycling. So, alongside the longer Munkebostien, there is a shorter route with three named uses. The park also has street sports facilities, including pole football, street basketball, various ball games, and facilities for skateboarding and scooters. Boardwalks run around the lake. At Munkebo MultiPark Shelters, there are three large shelters, a fire pit and a covered seating and lounging area.

Local history and landscape

Munkebo Miniby consists of around 100 miniature houses. They are detailed replicas of the houses in the old fishing village of Munkebo as it was in 1956. The miniatures thus offer a specific point of reference for local history: the fishing village’s houses at that time. At Munkebo Bakke, a different route leads into the past. Archaeological excavations there have revealed a settlement and a centre of power from the Late Iron Age and Viking Age. These date back to approximately 550 to 950 AD. The houses of the fishing village from 1956 thus stand in contrast to a much older history of settlement and power.

From the observation tower on Munkebo Bakke, you can see Odense Fjord, Kertinge Nor and the Great Belt. The hill acquired its present shape during the last Ice Age, 12,000 to 15,000 years ago. The Storebælt glacier came to an abrupt halt from the southeast, forming the steep northern slope as a terminal moraine. The views and the Ice Age history thus offer different perspectives on the same place: the named landscapes in the surrounding area and the formation of the slope.
