Langeskov brings together a range of themes for planning a trip: InterCity train connections, town trails, archaeological traces, moors and an annual market. From Langeskov station, InterCity trains run on the route between Copenhagen and Aalborg. Check the timetable for your specific connection. The Kløverstien runs through an urban area and offers a different focus from Bytoften, with its archaeological finds, or the surrounding moors.

Archaeological traces and a place to pause

Bytoften lies south of Langeskov and is an archaeological site: around 2,000 years ago, there was a village here. Posts mark the remains of houses from the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Viking Age. Bytoften thus brings together traces from three named periods. A route through the site is just over 2.5 kilometres long and passes through particularly scenic surroundings. Bytoften can be explored using the free “natureventyr” app.

Bytoften’s rest area also offers practical facilities for a break: it includes two shelters and a fire hut. At the shelter site, visitors can prepare food, eat and stay overnight. One of the reconstructed houses serves as a modern picnic house. During a visit, you can therefore focus on the archaeological traces, the described route or the facilities at the rest area.

Moorland landscapes and botanical highlights

Rønninge Mose lies south of Langeskov and is a moorland area of about eleven hectares. It formed during the last Ice Age as a so-called dead-ice landscape. The Urup Dam moor is home to six different orchid species and around 400 different plant species. The central part of the moor was protected in 1973 because of its botanical value. The two moors offer different highlights: Rønninge Mose is notable for its size and geological formation, while Urup Dam stands out for its plant diversity and protection history. Urup Dam offers nature experiences throughout the year.

Compare town trails and walks

The Kløverstien is located in an urban area and consists of four routes. Along it, visitors can experience the old railway town and the dead-ice landscape around the town. At Urup Dam, a three-kilometre footpath through different types of nature is described; the route at Bytoften is just over 2.5 kilometres long. These details offer different points of reference: the Kløverstien is characterised by its four routes and urban setting, while a length is given for each of the other two trails. This lets you compare the trails based on their described surroundings and the available distance information.

From Bytoften, visitors can walk through Rønninge Mose in the area around Langeskov. After heavy rain, this path can be almost impassable; waterproof boots are recommended. If you plan this walk, bear this advice in mind and check the conditions before your visit.

Market dates and local history

The Langeskov Kræmmermarked takes place every year on the third weekend of September at the market square by Grønvangen in Langeskov. At the market, Nordisk Tivolipark offers rides for children and adults. If you want to plan your stay around the market, the third weekend of September is the relevant period; it is a good idea to check the current event dates.

Further historical links can be found in the surrounding area and at a specific location in Langeskov. In 1942, a 2.6-metre-long dugout canoe was found in Rønninge Mose, dated to 3950–1701 BC. Tornskovkroen stood where Truelsholm, Odensevej 37, is today. Together with Bytoften’s archaeological traces, these places give the trip a historical focus ranging from prehistoric finds to a former inn.
