Two trails with different routes

The 1.5 km trail goes around Årsballe Mose. The route of around 9 km connects Klemensker and Årsballe: it starts on Mælkevejen, continues along Kongestien to Årsballe, and passes the meeting places Billen and Fuglemosen, as well as Naturhuset.

When choosing, the route matters as well as the length: the shorter trail goes around Årsballe Mose, while the longer route connects two places and passes several meeting places in Årsballe. Access to both trails may be affected at times by ground conditions or hunting. Check the current situation before setting out.

The history of Tejn Mølle, also known as Melsted Mølle, also connects two place names: it was built in Årsballe around 1800 and moved to Melsted in 2006. Its original building location and the place it was moved to belong to different chapters in its history.

Bornholm as a regional setting

Bornholm’s scenic destinations include Ekkodalen in Almindingen, Bornholm’s largest rift valley, and the cliffs above Opalsøen. From there, the view extends over the surrounding area, the Baltic Sea and the ruins of Hammershus Castle. Hammershus can also be seen panoramically from the Hammershus visitor centre. While the view from above Opalsøen takes in several landscape features, the panoramic view from the visitor centre focuses on Hammershus.

Bornholms Middelaldercenter is a 15-hectare open-air museum that presents Bornholm in the 14th century in an engaging and interactive way. At the NaturBornholm experience centre, you can see dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition. Exhibitions may change, so check what is currently on offer before visiting.

Bornholm’s smoking tradition is also associated with different places. The island’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, where herring has been smoked ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked traditionally over open chimneys using alder wood.
