Listed is a village on Bornholm, shaped by its harbour, rocky coast and traces of the herring fishery. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Listed, it helps to start by asking what you would like to experience there: the Baltic Sea and the harbour, trails through the landscape, or the history of the fishing village. These themes reveal different sides of the place and give you a basis for considering Listed as a destination.

Harbour, rocks and Baltic Sea views

The coast at Listed is rocky and offers views across the Baltic Sea. The route around Listed also opens up views of the sea and jagged rocks rising from the water. The harbour is used by fishermen and recreational sailors, and is sheltered from wind in all directions. In midsummer, you can watch the sunset from there. The coastal landscape and harbour are therefore both part of the character of the place, without Listed having to be reduced to just one of these features.

If you enjoy walking, the trails offer different experiences. The Listed hiking trail starts at the car park on Strandstien, opposite the old four-winged half-timbered farmstead Listedgård. Along the trail, you can look for edible plants selected for identification. Please note: the trail may be temporarily closed during a hunt; its accessibility may also vary depending on the season.

Trails and distinctive buildings

Sporet i Listed starts at a yellow box on a post in the car park by the harbour. The trail crosses a stream, leads through the forest to the main road, and continues to Bornholm’s oldest oak, which is said to be 300 years old. The same route description also mentions the old waterworks: Jørn Utzon designed it in 1951. Its hexagonal floor plan and roof covered in long grass give the building a distinctive architectural form.

Listedgård and the white chimneys also tell the story of the village. The striking chimneys of former smokehouses shape the landscape. Most of the smokehouses no longer serve their original purpose, but the chimneys are a reminder of the centuries-old tradition of smoking herring that shaped village life. If you would like to learn more about Listed, the harbour museum Havnemuseet tells the story of the place from medieval herring fishing to the present day. Visits are possible by arrangement with the museum attendant; please arrange your visit in advance.

Harbour life and nearby destinations

At the harbour, the trolling centre is associated with jig boats and guided fishing trips. If you would like to include one of these trips in your plans, check current availability directly. The harbour settlement is also home to a ceramics shop and an arts and crafts shop; you can check opening hours before visiting.

Two nearby destinations can also be distinguished by their location: the Brændesgårdshaven amusement park is about two kilometres from Listed. A hike from the harbour leads to Randkløve Cleft, almost four kilometres to the north.

Bornholm’s herring history

Beyond Listed, the history of smoking herring can also be considered in the wider context of Bornholm. Bornholm’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, and herring has been smoked there ever since. In Hasle, Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where herring is smoked in the traditional way, using open chimneys and alder wood. These places are on Bornholm and should not be confused with the smokehouses in Listed. This gives you a clear distinction to bear in mind when planning your trip: Listed offers its own coastal, harbour and local history, while the two smokehouses illustrate other aspects of Bornholm’s herring history.
