St. Roch’s Church, archaeological evidence and the Stations of the Cross are among Kreševo’s cultural and historical landmarks.

St. Roch’s Church and Its History

The Church of St. Roch was built in 1794. Its shallow reliefs depict plant motifs, flowers and stylized leaves. The church is listed as protected immovable cultural property under reference P-5307. Its construction date, decoration and protected status each provide a distinct historical point of reference for the building.

An asphalt road through the hamlets of Delići and Barabane leads to the church. As road conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

Archaeological Traces and History

The archaeological evidence places Kreševo in several widely separated periods. The Dobrkovci hillfort in Kreševo Polje dates from the Bronze Age. The fortification on Nezgriva Hill, also called Nezgrija, was active in prehistory and Late Antiquity. In the Kreševo–Katuni archaeological zone, the remains span the period from Antiquity to the Middle Ages. Together, these sites show that the area’s history is not confined to a single era.

A specific medieval milestone is the parish of Radobilje, to which Katuni and Kreševo belonged. Its first documented mention appears in a charter dated April 3, 1382. This date refers to the parish’s first written record.

The Stations of the Cross on Gradina

Another religious landmark is the Stations of the Cross in Kreševo. The route is 1,000 meters long and leads to the summit of Gradina, where the cross stands. Along the way are 14 stone chapels made of Mosor stone. The route’s length, destination and chapels give it a clearly defined course. If you plan to include the route in your trip, check the trail conditions in advance.

On the Vlake plateau in Katuni, the remains of the intersection of two Roman roads have been preserved. The wheel ruts cut into the stone are about 1.4 meters apart. The site is significant for understanding ancient transport infrastructure in the Dalmatian hinterland. Also in Katuni is Mandušića kula, a stone fortified house dating from the 15th century, in the northern part of the hamlet of Mandušići.

One themed trail runs through Katuni, and another leads to Katuni Brdo. Check trail conditions before your trip. The landscape of Općina Šestanovac also has its own regional character: fertile fields in karst depressions on the left bank of the Cetina meet a parallel karst ridge and a plateau. The municipality is bounded by Biokovo to the southeast and the Cetina Canyon to the south.
