Prapatnica: Church Art and the Rural Hinterland
Accommodation in Prapatnica
Prapatnica is part of the rural hinterland of Seget. In the wider Seget area, Seget Gornji, Bristivica and Ljubitovica are also rural hinterland settlements; Seget Donji and Seget Vranjica, by contrast, are classified as coastal swimming areas. These two profiles should not be conflated into a single picture of the area.
The Church of St Thomas
The Church of St Thomas the Apostle was built in 1891 on the foundations of an older church. Its interior includes a marble high altar with a 19th-century painting of the Assumption of Mary, two wooden altars, a locally made 18th-century painting of St Thomas, statues of St Roch and St Anthony, and an old wooden crucifix. The furnishings thus bring together several periods and materials within a single church interior.
The church is surrounded by a cemetery; a memorial statue of Our Lady Queen of Peace stands in front of it. A statue of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac stands outside the church at the crossroads leading towards Ĺ ibenik, Split and Prgomet.

Culture in the wider Seget area
In the wider destination of Općina Seget, the Baroque church of Gospe od Ružarija dominates the centre of the castle; it was built of white hewn stone in the early part of the second half of the 18th century. In the Seget Field stands the square Renaissance tower of the Statilić family, dating from 1516. In Seget Donji, three longitudinal and two transverse stone-paved streets ran through the castle. At the old harbour of Seget Donji, fishermen come ashore and show their catch; a centuries-old Mediterranean tradition continues there. Seget’s patronal feast is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and is celebrated on the first Sunday in October.
The cultural sites across the region have different points of focus: religious architecture, a Renaissance tower, the stone street layout of a castle, and the old harbour tradition. This places the cultural offering of the wider destination of Općina Seget in context as a complement to the local church art in Prapatnica.
