St. John the Baptist is a specific local landmark. Its history dates back to the early 18th century and can be placed in context using several construction details. The wider destination of Općina Dicmo also offers a broader perspective on railway, religious and landscape history.

Church construction in Krušvar

In Krušvar, the parish church of St. John the Baptist stands in the cemetery. Permission to build a cemetery church was granted in 1709; its construction is recorded as having been completed by 1718. The present single-nave stone church is believed to have been built in 1752 on the site of an earlier church dating from the early 18th century. The church also has a bell gable for three bells. The dates place the construction history in chronological context; the single-nave design, stone and bell gable describe the building’s form. “Single-nave” refers to a church space with one main nave and helps explain its form independently of its date.

Railway history in the wider destination of Općina Dicmo

In Općina Dicmo, Rera railway station and the narrow-gauge Sinj–Split railway line are part of the area’s historic transport history. The station was built in 1902. The line, which passed through Dicmo, began operating on September 12, 1903, and remained in service until 1962. The station building is therefore dated one year before rail services began; the start and end of operations mark a clearly defined historical period. On July 30, 2024, the theme park dedicated to historic routes and Rera railway station was officially opened in Dicmo. A steam locomotive is on display there. The station, the former railway line and the later-opened theme park provide three distinct points of reference for the region’s transport history.

The Dicmo Field and its landscape

The Dicmo Field is a dry, flat karst field in the Dalmatian Zagora, in the hinterland of Split. It is 15 kilometres long, up to 2.5 kilometres wide and covers 35 square kilometres; its elevation ranges from 315 to 319 metres. The Split–Sinj–Livno (Bosnia and Herzegovina) road runs through the field. Around Dicmo, Mosor (1,339 m), Visoka (890 m), Grubuša (647 m), Radinje (763 m) and Gradina (587 m) are among the highest mountains and hills. Mosor is associated with local legends and folklore; from its highest peak, views extend towards Split, the islands and the Dalmatian Zagora.

Culture, routes and orientation in Općina Dicmo

The Chapel of Our Lady of Health, also known as Our Lady of Prisoje, is part of the religious history of Općina Dicmo. It was built in three phases at the end of the 17th century. The Tematska staza Prisoje is one of the thematic routes in which the Municipality of Dicmo is investing as part of its active tourism programme. In Dicmo, the “Ustrajnost” section follows the former Rera railway track to a rest area and a control stamp beside a monument to civilian victims. This brings together two distinct route themes: a thematic trail from the municipal programme and a section explicitly linked to the former railway line.

The 14th folklore event “Da se ne zaboravi” was held for Dicmo Municipality Day 2025. An interactive 360° guide to Dicmo, described in 2022, includes archaeological sites, religious buildings, rural ensembles and traditional architecture. Before making plans, check whether digital access is available.
