If you’re looking for hotels for a trip to Općina Dicmo, its landscape and history help put the destination in context. Its defining features include the flat karst field in the hinterland of Split, traces of the former narrow-gauge railway, and named cultural sites. When planning your trip, first consider whether you want to focus on the landscape, railway history, or sacred architecture.

Karst Field and the Hinterland of Split

The Dicmo Field is a dry, flat karst field in the Dalmatian Zagora, in the hinterland of Split. It is 15 kilometres long, up to 2.5 kilometres wide, and covers 35 square kilometres; its elevation ranges from 315 to 319 metres. The width is given as a maximum, while the length and area describe different aspects of its extent. The Split–Sinj–Livno road (Livno is in Bosnia and Herzegovina) runs through the field. In the area around Dicmo, Mosor at 1,339 metres, Visoka at 890 metres, Grubuša at 647 metres, Radinje at 763 metres, and Gradina at 587 metres are among the highest mountains and hills. The flat field landscape and the named elevations in the surrounding area thus sit side by side.

Rera Railway Station and the Narrow-Gauge Railway

Rera railway station in Dicmo was built in 1902. The narrow-gauge Sinj–Split railway line, which ran through Dicmo, operated from 12 September 1903 to 1962. The theme park of historic routes and Rera railway station was officially opened in Dicmo on 30 July 2024; a steam locomotive is on display there. Together, the station building, the period of railway operations, and the exhibit offer different points of reference for railway history. Ferata, also known as Rera station, is closed to the public; check current access arrangements before visiting.

Routes with Historical Connections

The Tematska staza Prisoje is one of the thematic routes that the Municipality of Dicmo has invested in for active tourism. The former railway line is the focus of the “Ustrajnost” section: it follows the old Rera route to a rest area and a checkpoint stamp beside a memorial to civilian victims. This identifies the historic route at Ustrajnost specifically, while Prisoje is described as a thematic route associated with active tourism.

Cultural Sites in Dicmo and Kraj

Zeleni Park was created in the centre of the settlement of Kraj on 1,650 square metres of public municipal land. Another cultural landmark is the Chapel of Our Lady of Health, also known as Our Lady of Prisoje. It was built in three construction phases at the end of the 17th century. This information gives a date and notes that the chapel was built in several stages.

During the 2025 celebrations for Dicmo Municipality Day, the 14th folklore event, “Da se ne zaboravi,” was held. This is a specific cultural reference from that year; no date is given for another edition.
