The Jadrolinija ferry from Ploče to Trpanj takes one hour. Since schedules can change, it’s worth checking the latest service information before you travel. Once there, you can choose between beaches, bays and trails through the landscape. This lets you get to know Trpanj through both its coastline and nearby destinations.

Beaches around Trpanj

The pebble beach Pozora is near the Hotel Faraon. It offers natural shade and shallow water and is suitable for children. There is also a beach bar, and visitors can rent recreational equipment. Rental availability may vary by season, so it’s a good idea to check before your visit.

Divna offers a point of comparison with Pozora: the beach has sand and pebbles, shallow water and is also suitable for children. The beach surface differs, while both descriptions mention shallow water; natural shade is a feature of Pozora. Divna is ten kilometres from Trpanj in the direction of Duba. Duba itself is a small fishing village 13 kilometres from Trpanj; there is a pebble beach at its harbour. Here, the beach is complemented by the character of a fishing village.

Luka Beach is at the eastern entrance to Trpanj, in the bay of the same name. The beach locations therefore offer different reference points: Pozora is near the Hotel Faraon, Luka is at the eastern entrance, while Divna and Duba are described in terms of their distance from the town. When comparing beaches, their location and the character of the nearby place can matter alongside the type of beach surface.

Bays and trails

The paved waterfront promenade in Trpanj ends above Blace Bay, known for its deposits of healing mud. VuÄŤina Bay is also near Trpanj and was designated a significant landscape in 1975. Both the coastline and the surrounding bays form part of the landscape you can discover during a stay in Trpanj.

If you’re looking for a trail through the landscape as well as time by the water, the Lozica mountain hiking trail is nearby. It begins three kilometres east of Trpanj in the direction of Orebić and passes through varied vegetation, by a spring with flowing water and past sand dunes. The spring and dunes offer a different experience from the beach locations. Lozica and the waterfront promenade also represent different types of route: a mountain hiking trail outside the town and a paved promenade that ends above Blace.

A look at Trpanj’s history

The town’s history offers another way to discover Trpanj. Its residents were among the first to retain the use of the Croatian language in commercial correspondence. This connection to business life adds local cultural history to the landscape and beach themes. If, when choosing a destination, you want to consider its history as well as its bays and trails, this is another aspect of the town to explore.
