Trpanj: Olive Paths and Coastal Trails
Accommodation in Trpanj
Trpanj offers several different options for travelers who like to spend their days exploring the countryside on foot. The choices range from a 2-kilometer coastal walk to a 13-kilometer hiking and cycling route between Duba and Lovište. There is also a 15-kilometer road to the bays of Divna and Duba. An olive path and Paškal’s Path each offer a distinct focus. If you are looking for a hotel in Trpanj, these differences can help you decide what you are interested in during your stay.
Olive Groves, Dry-Stone Walls and the Sea
The “Olive Oil Paths of Trpanj” cover 6 kilometers from Camp Vrilo to Velika Prapratna. The route passes centuries-old olive groves and dry-stone walls; it also features information boards, benches and viewpoints. From there, you can take in the stone, olive trees and sea together. The path is therefore a distinct option for anyone who wants to experience these elements of the landscape together. Signage and surface conditions may change, so check them before setting out.
Paškal’s Path: Churches and Views
Paškal’s Path begins at the Church of Our Lady of Mercy. It passes an archaeological site identified as an Illyrian burial ground and continues to the Church of St. Paškal. From there, views extend to the Neretva Channel, vineyards and olive trees, as well as Gornja Vrućica. The path thus connects named religious and archaeological sites with a landscape distinct from that of the olive paths. Trail conditions and access may vary; check both before setting out.
Short Coastal Walk or Longer Route
The 13-kilometer Duba–Lovište route is described as suitable for hiking and cycling. It passes through natural scenery with views toward Hvar and above Jezero, a pebble-and-sand beach where fresh water flows into the sea. By contrast, the coastal walk in Trpanj is 2 kilometers long. The comparison shows two routes of markedly different lengths; both ways of getting around are also explicitly mentioned for Duba–Lovište.
Another option is the 15-kilometer road to the bays of Divna and Duba. It passes vineyards, olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation, as well as a gorge above Divna Beach. This road route is described differently from the paths mentioned above. Check seasonal conditions and access locally. Also check conditions and applicable fire restrictions before setting out on the Duba–Lovište route.
Getting There and Finding Accommodation
Jadrolinija ferry line 633 connects the port of Ploče with Trpanj; the crossing takes one hour. From Pelješac, you can continue toward Dubrovnik, Mljet or Korčula. Schedules and fares may change, so check the current ferry service before your trip.
The answer can help you decide what kind of stay you want, without treating the different routes as interchangeable. The ferry journey is also a separate planning consideration: check the connection and travel times when preparing your trip to Trpanj.
