Several cycling and hiking trails lead to or through Oskorušno. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between an MTB loop, a EuroVelo stage and the Viter mountain trail: the routes have different courses and distances. There is also the hilltop Church of St. Nicholas with its views, and Velika Prapratna Bay as a coastal highlight. This can help you decide whether cycling, hiking, cultural landscapes or swimming will shape your stay.

Cycling routes: loop and EuroVelo stage

MTB Trail 2 follows a loop through Kuna–Janjina–Trpanj–Oskorušno–Kuna. The entire route is about 40 kilometres long and can be ridden without dismounting; route conditions may change. The approach to Oskorušno on this trail takes you up a narrow, demanding asphalt climb, followed by a macadam section. Oskorušno is also a waypoint on the EuroVelo 8 Ploče/Trpanj–Ston stage. From Trpanj, the route crosses a pass into the interior of the peninsula and then descends towards Oskorušno. The difference for planning purposes is that Trail 2 forms a loop through several places, while EuroVelo 8 is part of a stage here.

The Viter mountain trail and its stone landscape

The Viter mountain trail also reaches Oskorušno. A 1,300-metre asphalt climb is followed by another 2 kilometres on macadam. Along the way, you pass vineyards, olive groves and dry-stone walls. These distances provide a concrete guide to the different sections of the climb; check local trail conditions before setting out.

The dry-stone walls and stone heaps along the Viter trail reflect the clearing of the karst for growing grapevines, olives and figs. The stones are also associated with the work of Pelješac women and agricultural labourers. The trail can therefore be seen not only as a scenic route, but also as a reminder of the work that shaped the cultivated land. As you approach Oskorušno, centuries-old olive and fig trees, old villages and traditional architecture also come into view.

Church of St. Nicholas and the views

The Church of St. Nicholas stands high above Oskorušno and serves as a viewpoint. From there, you can see the mouth of the Neretva, the northern coast of Pelješac and the vineyards inland. The church and the Viter trail offer different perspectives on the landscape: along the trail, you encounter dry-stone walls and traces of agricultural work, while the viewpoint takes in the coast, river mouth and vineyards.

Velika Prapratna: swimming and the olive oil route

Velika Prapratna is suitable for swimming throughout the day. The bay combines evergreen forest with crystal-clear sea. When travelling from southern Orebić to the secluded coves on the northern side of Pelješac, the route through Oskorušno is recommended.

The Trpanjski putevi maslinovog ulja route provides a six-kilometre connection to the bay that can be travelled on foot or by bicycle. It passes restored centuries-old olive groves and dry-stone walls. At intersections and widened sections, there are information boards and stone benches; the viewpoints bring together stone, olive trees and sea. Check the latest route information before setting out, as conditions may change.

Culture in the wider destination of Orebić

The archaeological site of Špilja Spila Nakovana is located in Nakovanj, in the wider destination of Orebić. It is a protected cultural asset. The cave was used as an Illyrian sanctuary during the Iron Age, in the 3rd to 4th century BC. This archaeological connection complements the trails, viewpoints and coastal scenery that can shape your stay in Oskorušno.
