In Skrad, natural attractions and historic architecture offer distinct themes for planning your trip. Skradski vrh and Zeleni vir shape the landscape, while the Lončarić House tells the story of the town’s architectural history. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can use your interests as a starting point for choosing a destination. The wider destination of Općina Skrad offers additional nature and culture themes.

Hiking Trails and Viewpoints in Skrad

A marked trail leads to Skradski vrh. A chapel dedicated to the Assumption and benches are located in a clearing at the summit. The route described also includes the Perić viewpoint and the Šiljar educational trail. The latter begins at Skrad railway station and leads via Kavranove stijene to the summit. The station, viewpoint, and summit are named waypoints in the route description. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Zeleni vir: Spring and Wildlife

At Zeleni vir, a powerful spring lies beneath a cliff about 70 metres high, and the surrounding area is richly vegetated. Protected horseshoe bats hibernate in Muževa hiša cave. An ornithological observation station adds to the area’s natural features. Springs and rocky landscapes here sit alongside themes of bat conservation and birdwatching. Trails and facilities may change, so check their condition before visiting.

Architecture and Local History

The Lončarić House in Skrad is considered a monument to Baroque bourgeois architecture. Construction is believed to have begun around 1820; the house was completed in 1841. It is protected by the Conservation Institute in Rijeka. The two dates carry different levels of certainty: the start date is approximate, while the year of completion is stated precisely.

A Look at the Festival malina

The 18th edition of the Festival malina took place in June 2026. The programme included a guided hike to Skradski vrh and a market for local products. Offerings included raspberries and other berries, honey, juice, liqueurs, and cheese, as well as paper crafts, natural cosmetics, and fruit-based desserts. The programme thus combined an excursion to the summit with a diverse selection of regional products.

In the Wider Destination of Općina Skrad

Vražji prolaz and Zeleni vir form a protected landscape that was designated in 1962 and covers 252 hectares. The canyon is about 800 metres long and, in some places, only about two metres wide. The path through Vražji prolaz is cut into the rocks above the stream in some sections, while elsewhere it is built with bridges and stairs. The narrow gorge and its winding path create a different landscape impression from the summit clearing at Skradski vrh.

In the wider destination of Općina Skrad, a circular route with three viewpoints begins at Skrad railway station. Kavranova stijena is the first viewpoint and Perić the second; the circular route is also part of the Goranska planinarska transverzala. The Šiljar botanical educational trail introduces visitors to vegetation at higher elevations. The viewpoints and botanical themes thus offer different focal points for planning a route.

The history of Općina Skrad also includes religious and technical buildings. Above the centre of Skrad stands a church dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. Built in 1694, it is considered the oldest church in the municipality of Skrad. The “Munjara” hydroelectric power plant is considered a valuable monument of technical culture and remains in operation.
