Zamost Brodski combines a local cultural landmark with natural and cultural attractions nearby. A chapel dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ stands in the village cemetery. Brod na Kupi has other points of interest: trails along the Kupa and Kupica rivers, Zrinski Castle, and a permanent exhibition on the natural heritage of Gorski kotar. For planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between them: the chapel is in Zamost Brodski itself, while several of the destinations described here are associated with Brod na Kupi.

Trails, cycling and activities

The Brod na Kupi–Vilinski Gaj–Kupica walking trail follows the Kupa downstream to Vilinski Gaj and the confluence of the Kupica and Kupa rivers. Along the way, the route crosses a stone bridge over the Kupica and then leads into Ulica Zamost. The river, bridge crossing and subsequent stretch along the road give the route a clear sequence.

You can extend the walk with the PouÄŤna staza medvjeda (Bear Educational Trail) in the grounds of OĹ  Frana Krste Frankopana. Access to the school grounds may be subject to local conditions; check visiting arrangements in advance. Brod na Kupi also offers walks along the Kupa and Kupica rivers. Access to the rivers and trail conditions may vary seasonally.

For mountain biking, MTB Loop 773 passes Brod na Kupi and Zrinski Castle. Riding conditions may change. Gorski Tok, at Kralja Tomislava 11 in Brod na Kupi, offers rafting. Check availability before your trip.

Culture and nature nearby

Zrinski Castle in Brod na Kupi houses the permanent exhibition “Divljina s pogledom na more” (“Wilderness with a View of the Sea”). It presents the natural heritage of Gorski kotar. The castle also houses the “The Routes of the Frankopans” Interpretation Centre. Both attractions are therefore in the same location. If you plan to visit the exhibition, check visiting arrangements beforehand.

Another historic landmark in Brod na Kupi is the Baroque parish church of St. Magdalene, dating back to 1670. Together with the cemetery chapel in Zamost Brodski, it offers a comparison between two different religious sites: the chapel is dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ, while the parish church is distinguished by its Baroque architecture and date of construction.

A broader regional natural feature is the upper Kupa Valley, often called the “Butterfly Valley” because it is home to more than 100 butterfly species. This focus on biodiversity adds another regional dimension to the river trails and the natural heritage of Gorski kotar.
