Trsce: Nature Trails and Mining History
Accommodation in Trsce
When looking for a hotel in Trsce, your specific destinations can shape the focus of your stay: mining history, nature trails, a historic church, or seasonal activities. Local routes range from a 1.7 km nature loop to the 6.5 km mining heritage trail; there are also regional hiking and cycling routes.
Traces of former iron mining
The trail Stopama tršćanskih rudara starts in the centre of Trsce and passes former iron ore mining sites and surface mining areas connected with the former Čabar ironworks. The route is 6.5 km long and features eight information boards and a viewpoint. It combines historical information with traces of mining in the landscape. Important for planning: entry into the mines is prohibited.
Nature trail with animal models and regional flora
The Staza predatora is a 1.7 km circular route; its starting point is behind the primary school in Trsce. Life-size models of a wolf, lynx, bear, deer, roe deer, fox, wild boar, and capercaillie stand along the trail. The botanical section introduces the flora of the Čabar and Gorski Kotar regions. Signposts mark the route, and benches provide places to rest. Maintenance work may be carried out on the models. At 1.7 km, this loop is shorter than the mining trail; its focus is also on wildlife and regional plants rather than the history of iron ore.
Hiking and cycling routes across the region
The Goranski planinarski put is a circular hiking route through Gorski Kotar, approximately 280 km long. Trsce is part of its second section. This approximate length refers to the entire loop, not the section near Trsce. Another option is cycling route 748 Down the Kupa: it starts in Trsce and descends along scenic hairpin bends towards Smrečje and Mali Lug. The regional options therefore differ in both scale and route type.
Church of St. Andrew
The Church of St. Andrew in Trsce dates from 1860 and was restored in 1996. It stands beside the Delnice–Gerovo–Prezid–Vrhnika road. The two dates distinguish its construction from its later restoration; the church adds a historical point of interest alongside the area's nature and hiking attractions.
Seasonal activities and current status
Seasonal offerings at the Rudnik sledding area include a conveyor belt, sled rental, and refreshments. Check whether it is operating before you travel. Gorski Lazi Adventure Park is currently temporarily closed for renovations. Its treetop obstacle course is about 300 m long and includes 13 platforms, seven bridges, and three zip lines. Take this closure into account when planning, rather than treating the park as an attraction currently available to visit.
