For a stay involving cycling or hiking, Štuti offers two specific route options: a road cycling route passes through the village, and a named hiking loop starts here. Astronomy and history add to the area’s appeal near Tićan and Višnjan. If you are looking for a hotel for these excursions, the starting point, route length and theme you prefer can help you plan.

Cycling and hiking by route profile

The route 101 KM I JEDAN TARTUF passes through Štuti between Karojba and Radovani. Classified as a road cycling route, it is 101 kilometres long, with an estimated riding time of 4 hours 30 minutes. This estimate is a useful guide for planning; check the route details before setting out.

The Istra Bike Trail of Stars passes through Dubrava Forest. Along the road, deep pits from old bauxite mining operations can be seen. The route is considered easy and suitable for younger and less experienced cyclists. Conditions and signage may change.

A loop described as moderately difficult starts in Štuti: the Lavender and Olive Farm–Tičan Observatory route. It is 9.64 kilometres long and includes about 130 metres of elevation gain and loss. The marked Sovina staza starts elsewhere: it runs for 7.7 kilometres from Višnjan through Deklevi and Kočići to Tićan and back. The two hiking options therefore differ in both starting point and length.

The Sovina staza includes the Vena viewpoint and a chapel with a preserved Istrian threshing floor. In clear weather, Vena offers views of the sea, the Učka massif, Ćićarija, the Julian Alps and the Dolomites. The chapel’s condition and access may change; check the trail conditions before your hike, too.

Astronomy and cultural heritage near Tićan and Višnjan

At Tićan, next to the Višnjan Observatory, a permanent exhibition displays models of the Earth and Moon at a scale of 1:21,600,000. The arrangement of the exhibits may change. The Kameni krug installation in Tićan is a functional reconstruction of a prehistoric sanctuary and solar observatory.

The Astro-Night programme includes an astronomy talk, a guided tour of the observatory and its dome, a laser-guided tour of the constellations, and weather-dependent observation of celestial bodies through an amateur telescope. Dates, prices and availability may change; check the current details when planning your visit. Astrofest is traditionally held at the summer solstice in Tićan near Višnjan. Dates and programme details may change here, too.

Historical points of interest include the 15th-century Gothic Chapel of Saint Anthony in Višnjan. Near the turn-off to the Tićan site on county road Ž-5042 in Štuti stands a downy oak protected as a natural monument. In the Višnjan area, local family businesses offer products such as olive oil, honey and other local Istrian specialities. Product ranges and producer participation may change.
