Međimurje County brings together a range of travel interests: a large regional park, nature education, industrial heritage, outdoor art, and the wine scene. The specific places can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.

Landscape and nature education

Within the county, the Mura–Drava Regional Park covers 16,962.54 hectares. Mađerkin breg viewpoint in Robadje offers a different perspective: it is about 27 metres high and provides a view from the highest point in Međimurje, which lies 361 metres above sea level. These figures refer to different elevations—the height of the viewpoint and the elevation above sea level of the highest point.

In Upper Međimurje, Matulov grunt serves as an education and research centre dedicated to butterflies and significant habitats for plant and animal species. The Med dvemi vodami Visitor Centre has two modern, well-equipped galleries and a permanent interpretive exhibition. These places have distinct focuses: Matulov grunt is dedicated to the species and habitats mentioned, while the galleries and permanent exhibition form the setting at the visitor centre.

Industrial history and culture

The Oil Industry Memorial Park in Peklenica features a reconstructed oil well, an oil museum, interactive exhibitions, and educational activities for children. The reconstructed well, museum, and interactive formats offer different ways to explore the subject of oil; activities for children are also available. At the Dr. Rudolf Steiner Centre in Donji Kraljevec, visitors can learn about the life of Dr. Steiner. Here, the focus is on a biography—a different approach from the industrial history in Peklenica.

In Štrigova, the renowned fresco painter Ivan Ranger decorated part of the sanctuary of the Church of Saint Jerome in the 18th century. The Osojnički Gallery in Grabrovnik is an international outdoor sculpture collection that is open to visitors year-round. The art on offer thus ranges from historic religious painting to a collection of sculptures in the open air.

Wine, trails, and getting there

Urbanovo is an international festival celebrating Pušipel and the Međimurje wine scene. It takes place every year in mid-May in Štrigova and has developed into an authentic tradition over the past twenty years. The exact festival dates may vary from year to year, so check the dates for the year you plan to travel. The Štrigova area has well-maintained cycling routes, marked hiking trails, and forest paths. The Pušipel Trail is a circular route through the landscapes of the Međimurje Wine Road. This lets you decide whether the festival dates or the trails and circular route should be the main focus of your plans.

Međimurje can be reached by car, train, or bus. The A4 motorway connects Zagreb, Čakovec, and the Goričan border crossing. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide which of the themes mentioned should shape your stay and take Urbanovo’s dates into account when choosing your travel dates. Before departure, check the latest train and bus timetables; if travelling by car, it is worth checking road conditions.
